OK, Hello fellow Haado Geis, resident Harmsups, etc etc.

Today I received my Power FC in the mail. And my excitement is very high.

NOW ~ The model of Power FC i bought is for a DC2-R, and I have a VTi-R.

These ECU's come with a basemap, and I bought the product so I could eventually turbo my monster, but I wanna make sure it works, before I pack it back up and put it in the area where I have stashed my small yet expensive turbo parts. i.e. bov, gauge, intercooler.

I'll be eventually doing the turbo thing, after I buy a manifold and turbo, but I wanna make sure that it'll run on my engine, rather than waiting 4 months and then realising, hey shit, it doesnt work etc.

So, can I actually run it without taking it to a tuner, just to see if it goes, and to check out what I bought. I suppose if I do plug it in and stuff, and sell my original P72 ECU, that could go to the cost of tuning, but there's no point in getting it tuned now, and having to get it redone in the future.

Suggestions, advice, etc.

Cheers,

Yf.

In my limited experience,& before someone with fc know how can tell u otherwise.....

DONT DO IT

It might start & idle ok,but definitely dont drive it.
I should imagine the base maps will be quite different due to the cams.
The ITR setup will prob not even operate the IAB(if your running a stock intake manifold).
Even with the VTiR base loaded, I would still take it straight to the tuner, driving responsibly,& get it setup for your car.

In short,in case your feeling tempted, leave it in the box & wait for someone to come on & tell you otherwise.

You could prob plug it up & have a scroll thru the menus, but why not just read the instructions & def dont start it.

plug it up, let it learn idle and that would be enough for you to see that there are no problems there

yeah but I got more parts to buy. I just wanna make sure that what I got actually works etc. so if I have any problems I can deal with it now rather than a couple of months down the track.

Power fc have self-learning. It seems have 3 steps to do. Try to read your instruction.

Better to have good tuning.

when i installed my Power FC, the car struggled to idle, the revs hunted, it didnt really rev, and used a whole tank of fuel in about 120kms, but i also changed cam's, exhaust etc.. at the same time so that wouldnt have helped

after it was tuned was a whole different story :D

yourfather - this is the link to learn abt PFC stuff:

http://members.dodo.com.au/paul/docs/powerfc-faq/powerfc-faq.htm

here is the instructions:

http://members.dodo.com.au/paul/manuals/Apexi_Power_FC_manual.pdf

and for hand controller:

http://members.dodo.com.au/paul/manuals/Apexi_FC_Commander_manual.pdf

(for RX7 - but covers most of what you need to know as a non-tuner)

Jomsy - you obviously didnt go through the power Fc "self learning" process?

tell ya what, after I finished doing what I wanted to do with the city, ie. i stripped its interior, took out the crappy seatbelts and stuff and sprayed the inside a bit with "appliance white" haha.

i moved on to my dc2, and
I tried plugging in my power FC, and I couldn't even get the wiring harness out of my oem ecu one. wtf.

must be something that im doing wrong

use a screw driver to push in the clips and prise them gently out...
