Were there any other passengers? If there were no passenger in your front passenger seat, I don't think the airbags will deploy on the left side.

i think its dependent on passengers seat belts being on (for the relevant airbag) and the g-forces of the accident. if an airbag isnt needed, then its just an added expense if it goes off when its not really required.

if I were you, I'd get Honda to check it out, you wouldn't want the airbags to go off without a reason while driving one day. I understand you have to do this for BMWs....reasonable g force accident with no airbags going off = take back to BMW for a check.

Probably depends on the direction of the impact.

I had someone drive into my driver's side front wheel earlier this year (I have an 06 lux). The seat airbag and curtain airbag went off (driver's side), but not the steering wheel or any of the other airbags.

I would suggest that the car determined which airbags (or not in your case) to deploy. Since airbags (a) are expensive to replace and (b) can give you a good wallop (my ear was stinging for ages and it knocked the lense out of my sunglasses -- but it saved me smacking my head on the window), I think you'll find most cars have sensors which can detect where the impact is and which bags to set off. The technology has come a long way from the days of "I've hit something and my steering wheel bag goes off".

The repairer will probably check all the sensors anyway -- because they'll have to unplug things to carry out repairs.

Thanks to all thoughs who have replied. The Honda dealer has the final inspection after the repair,so they will reset the air bag sensors. Will try and find out more. Cheers everyone

personally i hate the fact that the airbag is in the seat... i wish it was in the B pillar or something.

Since the car got T Boned on the left with no passenger, there is no need to deploy any airbags.

I believe the airbads deploy depending on the hit direction (using an accelerometer if I recall correctly), and depending on the seats' weight sensor (not the seatbelt being buckled).

I'm pretty sure the car knows there is a passenger sitting in the seat using a weight sensor, because the seatbelt light beeps at you if the passenger doesnt have the seatbelt fastened. (I dont think the rear seats have a weight sensor though..)
