NON what so ever.

Though if you go to Honda-Tech they might have a different opinion which will include something along the lines of.........

"Dem JDM B16z is Blingin' yO!"

one of them has a larger "DOHC" and one has a larger "VTEC" on the crocker cover.....but i cant remember which is which.

thats only to differentiate between the B16A1s from the B16A2s

The B16A2 has "VTEC" in bigger writting

JDM B16A has DOHC written in Capitals vtec i small writting
wer the usdm has VTEC in large and dohc in small
but some of the covers ive seen while unloading containers with b16a's comming out are the other way around

stocky

the different sizes in symbol are to distinguish the early b16's from the later one's
anyway, the jap spec will say b16a only whilst the aust spec will have b16a2

in my expirences I've seen them the other way round :P

I'm looking at pictures of the two right now (EK4 and EG9 and EG6)

Dunno about your experiences, but my genuine JDM EF9 SiR has the DOHC written bigger than the VTEC, as does the spare cover off a JDM DA6 XSi 'teg.

That's my experience.

stocky: the EE8's and EE9s in Europe have B16A1 on them - but they are the 150bhp '89-'91 rexes and civics, almost identical to the EF8 and EF9 other than power and quite a few internal differences.

well my Genuine JDM EG-6 Has it the other way round :P Maybe they alternated it.

cool, but the guy was wondering about the b16a2's
but yeah......my xsi da6 does have the bigger DOHC too and the additional vacuum hardware on the intake manifold, thus the early b16a.

ok so basically if it says 'b16a' on the block then i should be right

This is a pic of my second gen JDM B16A's cam cover. This motor came out of a 1995 EG6.

This is what is stamped on the block:

http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wMzk3ODEwNnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D.jpg

This is a pic of my 1st gen JDM B16A's cam cover. This motor is out of a 1988 EF8 CRX:

http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wMzk3ODExNnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D.jpg

And this is what is stamped on the block:

http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wMzk3ODEyNnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D.jpg

Basically only differences are what has already been said:

1st gen - big DOHC, little VTEC, also says 'Honda Motor Co.' underneath the H symbol

2nd gen - little DOHC, big VTEC, says just 'Honda'underneath the H symbol

All JDM B16's have only B16A stamped on their block, no numbers after.
(again - already said before)

Cheers.

Lol, I've got 3 at the moment: The second gen B16A in my Civic, the 1st gen B16A sitting in my bro's garage and my original D15B sitting in my backyard. The first gen is for sale too for anyone interested :)

While we are on this topic of rocker covers. Anyone tell me how much it might be to get one chromed? And any places in Brisbane you know of?

pillow
19-05-2004, 04:58 PM
www.yellowpages.com.au...about 37 came up by searching for 'electroplating' in the Brisbane area

dont go chrome :P get pollished headers and intake man and intake pipe.... the black will break it up nicely.

19-05-2004, 06:17 PM
I'd have to agree with SIKCVC on the chroming. I polished the cam cover on my first gen B16A cos the paint was in shitty condition, but I've left the paint on my second gen cos it looks better in the car I reckon.

CAT_SPEW
19-05-2004, 06:57 PM
Cool thanks Pillow, I dunno about just polishing. How shiny will it come up do you reckon?
And does it need to be sand blasted first?

pillow
19-05-2004, 08:21 PM
I just used a paint stripper to remove all the old paint, then polished using a buffer wheel attachment on a grinder. My dad does alot of polishing for his vintage motorbikes and they come up looking like they have been chromed. It takes a bit of patience and time, but it can come up well if done right. The polish job done on my cam cover was done in about 30min lol, it just needed a bit of a tidy up.

I spose with a white engine bay Polished/chrome would look pretty good... I've seen it in mags and it does look fair showy... often the nicest thing on cars sometimes :P

hey this might seem a stupid question but could swap a b16a2 into my car without having to get all the half cut shit. i've got a 2nd gen crx with a b16a1 already in it.

what would it cost all up to do this if i did all the work myself?

SIKCVC
04-07-2004, 08:48 PM
why would you want to swap from a B16a1 to b16a2? i was sure as far as power is concerned they were the same... I know the gear box is different hydro as apose to cable. I could SORTA see why you'd want a JDM second gen b16a being slightly more powerfull but still doesn't make sence unless your current engine is fvcked.

Pisty
04-07-2004, 09:20 PM
yes well that is just it. the engine is faaaarrrked. so the jdm one has hydro?? can i only get that gear box if i get half cut?

its not worth converting from cable to hydro. Just find another motor. Coincidently i have one for sale :P

No offence but its EXPENSIVE and not worth it to convert to Hydro.

]No offence but its EXPENSIVE and not worth it to convert to Hydro.

um, guys, he CAN just swap the long blocks over, if he already has a B16A installed.

cost = engine hoist hire, box of disposable gloves, engine oil, gbox oil, coolant & s.plugs..

[G]
05-07-2004, 02:57 PM
What i meant was it would not be worth running the Hydro gearbox setup on a gen2 crx.

EDIT: Just re read his post. I dont know if he wants just a motor or a GB. But he seemed keen on a another GB so i just thought hed be better off sticking with a cable series box over a hydro being in a 2nd Gen CRX.
