View Full Version : What is the Different between Y80, S80 & S20 gear box

hi, all, just wondering what is the different between Y80, S80 and S20 manual gear box, what those codes means? to identify LSD and NON LSD???
cos i m looking for a B series manual gear box for the vtec conersion....so want to know what are they, which one will be more suit me (i prefer close ratio gear box :p) thx.

i believe the s20 gearbox is the d series gbox with lsd ..

best thing to do is to look through the part where the drive shafts go into.. if you can see straight through one end and out the other it has an lsd. if there is a rod in the way that stopps you from seeing straight thru, it is not an lsd. Also there is a factory print on the type r gear boxes that says LSD


go for a 98 spec or higher dc2, s80 type r gear box, they are the best from factory.

S4C is the CTR box
LSD with 4.4 final drive

Aust Spec D-series engine equipped LSD or not? my one is S20........thx again all

No Aust spec D-series was equipped with LSD. Not even b-series unless it's an ITR, thats about the only LSD equipped Aust delievered car.
