We all know B16a Eg will be faster , however I'm just curious how much faster will the B16A EG be comparing with a B18B powered EG, cheers la

You under-estimate the B18B ;)

what do you define as faster ?

off the line ?
quarter mile ?
top speed ?

B18B > B16A

both would be slow cars so yeah....i think as with every thread like this...all comes down to driver. :)

i agree the b18b will be better, especially daily driven not to mention cheap as. also room for improvement later on ala LS-Vtec

sorry , let's see straight line, the reason why i started this tread is because i think B18B got really underrated .

if it's off the line..
then higher torque wins

Bigger displacement always have the upper hand....

hmm... b16a will win in a quarter mile?!

Comes down to driver - period.

B18B will eat off the line. then the B16a will start pulling it back from around 2nd gear
most likely the B16a will win with the higher revving engine and peakier power band

Jeebus I dont know who YOU race.. so if I rock up in my tractor and start revving it at the lights i'll chop you cause i got trailer-loads of torque ? LMFAO and all those VN commodores with hteir torquey V6's chop you do they ? bummer !

you're exactly right. unfortunately the B18B has no top end and the B16 whilst it has no bottom end torque, it will chop it witha far superior top-end... isnt that right Joshoir ;)

LOL at V7EC. Yes agree that the b16a should overpower at top end, but like others have said, its all about driver skill too.

i thought bout this when i was looking to swap too.

i think b18bs can be pretty good in a lighter car, ie. Eg. they would also be cheaper too.

go for it just to be different and tell us bout it mate lol ;)

Well I pull away from SR20 pulsars which have similar power and a little more torque than B18b....

You are comparing apples and oranges.

Firstly, different gear ratios, secondly, power/torque produced at different revs. Mainly, there would be different setups in the cars, and weight distribution, b18 would be a better base to start for turbo, b16 for high revving lightweight track car...

Zeforce, your comparing the SR20 pulsars to your EG right bro?

i thought this thread was about comparing b18b's and b16a's in EG's

so if there were two tractors (same weight).. one with higher torque than the other.. which one will be quicker off the line ?

same with those "VN Commodores"..

this thread is about two different engines in the same chassis with the same weight.

how much HP does a b18b have? 142hp where the b16a has about 160hp.
I think its basically the b18b doesnt rev as high. it is when u start getting in the high revs the b16a will win.

but for a daily driver a b18b would be nice because of the torque. instead of dropping a gear to over take u could just plant your foot. :)

End of the day it's up to you. But i'm pretty sure the B16a would win every time in all circumstances, even off the line with both competant drivers of course. (B16 gearbox has better ratio's and final drive that makes up for the missing bit of torque B18b has)

At any particular point in time, whichever has the higher WHEEL TORQUE will be accelerating faster. The B18B has longer gearing = less wheel torque = less acceleration. It's capacity may make up for this down low however.

Threads like this are utterly stupid, it seems every day someone is trying to figure out a new way to compare the B18A/B to B16A. Who cares what a stock motor will do, both cars will be slow, end of story.
