I pulled out my dash & everything but how do I get the plastic thing off? It seems to be glued, does that mean I have to snap it out? Thanks in advance guys...

I would suggest getting a low temp heat gun or a hairdryer and applying the heat to the glued edge, the glue should go tacky fairly quickly, then you can pull the cover away. Make sure you test the heat first on an area that won't be really visible just in case the heat makes the plastic go cloudy. Just a suggestion, I haven't done this before on a dash but I've done a similar thing with plastic lens headlights and I had no troubles...

you don't need to do use any heat guns etc. the plastic bit should come off. I tooko the thing off to put on my luminious glow dials recently.

It doesn't really come off because it's like glued together... if you were to take it off you'll have to snap it off. But then how do you put it together again?

I used a heat gun on low temp. as Captiva Blue had and pulled it off carefully. I painted mine white. And than just re-glue it back in place. Marte, your dials sit underneath the plastic that NightKids is talking about. That comes off the cluster because it's held in by clips or something, i pulled that off too when i did my indiglows. But yeah, just be very carefull whed you do it man, it's not hard

sounds odd.. i've pulled apart about 8 honda clusters 4 being EG clusters, and never ones i had a problem taking em out, let alone having to deal with glue.
should just be clipped on, and that's it.

yeh thats what happend with mine.. just a few of those metal clips.. but was playing with a friends one was held together buy a bit of glue *shrugs*

My one was glued, but on another car (nissan) when i pulled it appart it was just plastic clips. I used just the good old superglue u get from anywhere, $2 at the discount store and it's working fine, no fogging up or anything. And also, the edges are hidden away behind the black plastic that has the a/c vents in it so if you mess it up a bit (like i did), noone can see it.

Where r u located by the way NightKids, if you are here in brisbane i can give you a hand

NightKids

yeah me & my friend thought it was help together by clips as well, but then we tried yanking it off & keep hearing this crackling noise, that's when we noticed that it was actually glued together. Maybe only the newer model EG's are glued? Cause mine is 95.

Thx for the offer Boban but i'm from Melb, that's very kind of you... cheers mate

seems like the only solution is to use a hair dryer, but i haven't actually tried it yet.

tried that.. doesn’t work:o

Some parts look to be heat pressed :thumbdwn:

I'd like to see pics of someone who was able to get it off without damage!!

I know there's no way I can, I've busted one already grrr

Boban

I used a heat gun (guess that was higher temp than the hair dryer - has 300c and 500c setting :p) to get mine off. I did it in sections mate, starting from one corner and work slowly along the top off it and so on. Maybe try and put something like toothpick in between the areas you unglued already so they don't stick back togrther coz the glue will be hot.... dunno what else to say appart from....nah that's all i got :D

Installed it already. Basically just used a hairdryer to heat it up slightly then used very thin flathead screwdriver to split apart. Focus on one side first. Then heat up other parts slowly and use stanley knife to precisely split the plastic apart. In around 10-15 mins should be all off.

Bezel fits very nicely. Great product.

Yeah i got blue LED's with mine, but unfortunately one indicator one isn't working atm.

Boban

I HAD blue led's in mine b4 i bought the indiglows. They were little push in blade light bulbs like you use in parkers up the front, but smaller (5mm from memory) but i kept blowing them up for some reason. I have my alarm connected so the taillights/parkers flash instead of the indicators, maybe that's why they kept blowing up. Anyhow, at $15/pair it worked out chaper for me to get some blue indiglows :p

Oh man that looks so hot. What bulbs did you use to get that colour?

TYPE-ONE
05-09-2006, 03:16 PM
Um instead of the original 1 filament type bulb . i put in 3 red led into each hole. wired them all up and there you have it. i recommend getting amber led if you want ek9 style. Mine is like full on red like audis and euro sport.
