so, will be installing my cai quite soon when i get all the parts...

^ in the above pic

just wondering what the purpose of this coolant line pipe thingo is since we're going to be taking that out and just plugging that long coolant line directly in...

what's the use of having that extra bit? (i'm talking about the bit marked in blue)...

btw, is anyone interested in me writing up a DIY? won't include the resonator removal though, i've already taken it out...lol

the purpose is to prevent people from installing CAI's.

hmm, thanks for that info...

when i install my cai, i have to just use the red coolant line....gotta plug that into the input where the green coolant line is plugged into....

hopefully it'll be long enough....

has anyone who installed their cai had a problem with it?

The red one looks to be the hot water line going to your TB the blue bit looks like it is made of metal piping and is there just to prevent kinking of the rubber hose due to the severe angle of the metal nipple on the engine. If you get a proper lenght of hose you could remove it but make sure the new rubber hose has enough slack so with it installed the rubber hose does not kink and cut off water flow.

There are 2 lines:

1. The Cam cover breather which goes to the stock intake

2. The Water line as you have marked out in Green/Red/Blue.

When you put your new CAI in, you can get rid of that metal peice inbetween 'both' lines.

Water line: Put the Red pipe directly in where the Green pipe connects taking that it is long enough. If not, get a longer pipe.

Breather Line: Make sure this is connected again from your cam cover to your new CAI.

Has this work okay for you dean??

I was wondering why it was made that way and I thought that there might be a reason for it.

On our cars (both OBDII) this coolant line does a bit of a loop before it goes into the throttle body. Do you reckon that loop is there for a reason?? or not??

Just want to make sure before I end up doing it to my car soon! :P

yeh it should be long enough as most ppl have done it...i just hope it's long enough to prevent any 'kinking' as claymore said and stop teh flow of coolant...

I really think that metal peice is there to neaten up lines and to provide more security for them rather than to have the pipes flaping around. Its also more astheically pleasing ie. neat seeing it in a stock engine bay.

You could always buy some new piping. Might look a bit better too!

claymore's rationale of that looping seems to sound quite true if u think about it...i guess it does prevent any kinking and all...

btw, where can i get some new tubing from? (some nice ones, lol)...never bought tubes in my life...

Your set up on your car is different to mine (different engines of course), my water line pipe is pretty much a straight line on the B18C7 so I just had the rubber pipe. On my old B16A2 it was in a bit of a loop. So from this I put a metal pipe joiner in (see pic, its in the foreground where you can see the 2 hose clamps) plus from memory I am not sure if the pipes were long enough just to use the one.

There are people that specialise in hosing etc. Just look up some places. Just tell them what you want it for. Take the old one in for size etc.
