Sorry if this thread already exists, I couldn't find something like it using the search, but please point me to the right place if you know where it exists.

I think alot of owners are running 98 ron in their cars. Eg i have an integra type s and i use 98 even though honda state 95 usage. I think/feel I get slight detonation using 95.

People say that our AUS DC5R and DC5S are the same engine (well, K20A2 for DC5R at least, i'm not sure if 06 RSX's have k20z1's) as the US RSX type S, yet I think their 'premium' is 91 ron.

Would they suffer from bad cases of detonation or would their ECU's account for this lower octane rating?

I read about how marketing peoples say we didn't get the jap spec k20a because we don't have 100ron here. is 2 ron really that much difference? considering that k20a2 in USA is ok for 91 ron, and k20a2 in AUS is ok for 95 ron.

It could just be a case of the quality of the fuel? I always pour 98 whether optimax, bp ultimate or sometimes synergy, or sometimes optimax extreme. I've found that normal premium unleaded in the past doesn't run as nice, however I haven't poured normal premium for a while, so don't know how it would run now.

i bet any money you do tight arse tuesdays and fill up then when the petrol is a week old

remember that pertrol looses 1-2ron octane per week.

most servos get deliveries 2-3 times a week. i work at a mobil and know this to be true.

dont forget that there is more to fuel than just the octane rating. there are loads of other additive that are designed to increase the performance of the fuel, and many people are able to distinguish differences between say vortex 98, and synergy 8000

um... i am sort of been convinced by reading on the net that the US rates gasoline grade different to Australia, i think with 95 Ron here is something like 93 over at the states? correct me if i am wrong

eh, I fill up when I need it. it's not like i'll not drive my car and walk somewhere because petrol is 4 cents more expensive than on a tuesday. Between 1.41 and 1.45 a full tank is like $3 difference. if what spunkymonkey says is true then I guess it doesn't really matter if you fill up on tuesday or not.

Anyway, the purpose of the post was to ask about different fuel ratings between american and australia for the same engine, not about if i should use 98 or 95ron or what brand is best.

Is anyone able to comment more about US 'premium' petrol being rated different and being 93 ron?

i love it when you buy optimax, and you get heaps of black sooty shit all over your bumper and out your tail pipe, but if you get BP ultimate, it doesnt happen

In Adelaide we don't get vortex 98 or shell optimax so our choices are either bp ultimate or synergy 8000, but with so few mobiles around compared to bp's, ultimate is really the only choice for 98.

that is correct. you cant compare our octane ratings to theirs unless you work out the difference in rating

Our 98 is USA's 93.
Our 95 is USA's 91
Our 91 is USA's 89

a typical nice bit of information from you aaron! :)

i guess the US would rate our 100ron at 95?

no, there's no linear relation between our octane and theirs. it would probably be something like 93.75
