I backed my Civic quite hard into a steel surface a week ago, its stupid I know but I'm on red P. I was lucky since no paint got scuffed on the back bumper, and after I gave it a few knocks with my fist the shape is as new as well, but since then I noticed if I let go of the steering wheel while driving the car veers slightly to the left. I don't know if its because the road is sloped, or that I messed the car up mechanically.

Thing is I noticed my steering wheel wasn't centered properly even before I had the accident. Is this normal for the steering wheel to be veering a bit to the left when left untouched?? I've only done 1300km to date so it's hard to tell.

you need a wheel alignment. Get one from tyre specialists (bob jane, bridgestone etc).

hitting gutters.. lowering your car.. things like this mess with your aligment settings.

Your toe is most likely out (this gets adjusted by the tie rod on a wheel alignment machine).

Wheel aligment will fix it up completely.

Alright, thanks for the help.

hi, it sounds like ur rear left control arm is possibly bent and causeing the toe to stick out abit thats why the car pulls to the left.
and do u find it when you go over bumps ur wheel takes the steering left n right?

if it is so then,
go buy yourself a control arm about 90 bux and a new bush $50 each then get ur car a wheel alignment, that would fix it all up

somone rep me =D

How could he have possibly damaged the steering if he "backed" the car into something???

Or did he kind of "beach" the car on it from front to rear?

wasn't there a thread like this ages ago? or did i read it elsewhere? well many people with the new civic said that it steers to the left. to me its just normal now lol, got used to it.

damaging the rear lower control arm makes the wheel not sit properly and if u get an wheel alingment it wont do anything cause it wont move back to the 0.06 this is the position where the normal straight wheels sit .(think thats right)
i had this problem. still do cbf fixing it yet lols
mine lower rear ones siting at -0.07

It may not be the rear. Could possibly be the front..
The tie rod ends at the front cause to to be in or out.

It doesnt really matter where its coming from as a alignment will fix all 4 corners, and if there is a damaged component somewhere they would pick up on it during the alignment :)

so dont go buy a rear control arm and bush yet!

i read somewhere that right hand drive cars are engineered to steer slightly to the left so that if u fall asleep behind the wheel u swerve off the road and not into another car head on

T-onedc2

Well usually the road slopes to either side of centre anyway so this will cause the car to veer one way.

-1 for giving wrong info

its ur wheel allignment, and also ur steering wheel is steering to the side because ur on a different road and slope is different, maybe u didnt noticed it before cause ur such a noob IAMVTEC

isn't the slope for the water run off. in one way streets the road still cambers down both sides like on high ways etc

no i have had this problem b4 mate. and for the steering its the tie rod

the rear has an affect on the pulling of the wheel

my rear control arm was bent and was one of the reasons for that.. but then again his prob could be diffrent , but it shows the symtoms that i had so im trying to help ,

in futrure dont try to grill me

sorry cant hold on anymore, thats a piss poor excuse lol. did u use that on ur test? im not grilling u believe it or not but it sounds like the kind of thing aca or tt would say.....

..........P Platers... they get their licenses but can they really drive? Each year thousands of P plates cause millions of dollars worth of damage. Some P platers cant even park straight. So how do they get their licenses and how can they be trusted wtih high powered vehicles (cue airbrushed rexy, commodore smoking it up and grainy speed racing file footage, aggravated/encouraged youth of middle eastern/southern european appearance and appropriate tryhard accent)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

dont believe the hype! not all p platers are incompetent!!

only some. but yea. i follow you. they show all the accidents from p platers or youngens. but non from older folks. or even young adults with fulls. they also show skylines n supras in accidents. but not the volvo.

What do u mean, of course red P is a crap driver compared to the rest. You cant compare somebody with 15 years driving experience to somebody with 1 month of driving experience.

I cant even reverse park yet haha.

Then why aren't you out there practising reverse parking? Go and practise in an empty parking lot. I don't want to be a victim of your driving skills.

its a brand new car.

get it checked from the dealer man. as others have said, you may have allignment issues.

post some pictures of the damage.

That is true, but they are showing accidents that are only caused by Ps. n performance cars. they dont show accidents from people in volvos or camrys. unless they have a P plate on. :) i mean. a barina can go atleast 180km/h if it wants too.

YEA!! go practice ur parking!!! i hope i dun live close to u:) haha jk

Thats just a cop out and the kind of attitudes that see us get pulled over n harrassed by cops, the public and the media. i know plenty of older drivers who are worse than me.

dont use experience as an excuse. you have to take the initiative. i didnt go for my test until i was 100% confident that i could drive in any conditions and that i could cope with the stresses. dont wait for an accident to gain experience

if you cant reverse park, how did u do ur test?

IAMVTEC
01-09-2006, 02:29 PM
Im not sayin Im fully incompetent as a driver since Im ok but as a new driver you lack experience in certain situations, shit even people that have been driving for ages take time to adjust to a new car.

I can reverse park in theory, but in the real world where you got squeeze in between 2 parked cars, while dickheads behind u are pressuring you like crazy. Its not that easy. Probably need to practice since I used a Corolla to take my test, and the wheel technique feels different to civic.

LOL.. mate its all the same.. it take you about 1 day to get used to a new car and how it feels.. etc..
i thought like you b4.. thats why i failed my reds 4 times
and then i just got shitty one day n drove with confidence and i passed my greens with flying colors

you probably just drove into a slope. i dont think you need a wheel alignment after a slight bump to the rear..
