Hey all,
Is it possible to change the tranny oil myself? I have all necessary jacking equipment but is there a special tool i can get to refill the gearbox? Draining it is easy but its just refiliing it thats hard.

And what sort of gear oil do you guys recommend? I have heard of redline??(I think thats what its called) and castrol syntrax.

Or is there a reliable workshop in Brisbane that can do this sort of work? Cause I want to get my brake and clutch fluid changed aswell.

Cheers guys!!:D

just use honda MTF.
refilling isn't hard, undo the bolt, and run a hose from the filler bolt, to the top of the bay, use a funnel, and start pouring.

MTF all the way,

you need a 17mm spanner and a 3/8 ratchet and a decent jack or jack stands. Its pretty straight forward

Yeah Ive read alot in here that you all recommend Honda oils and lubricants. Thing is I used to work at a Mitsubishi dealership and Im am sure the stuff they used was cheap. Even the mechanics said they would never use it in there cars

thats not the case for Honda

the oil manufacture have to make the fluids to hondas tight specs.

honda fluids are of hight quality.

yeah its quite easy. only use honda mtf.

buy replacement washer(s) from honda
jack the car up and support it properly for safety
get under the car and put a ~4L catch can under the drain bolt
undo the refill bolt
undo the drain bolt
drain the fluid out for 10 minutes
put the drain bolt back in (and the washer if needed)
lower the car so you can fill the tranny to the correct level
get a 1meter hose and jam it in the refill hole
put a funnel in the other end of the hose
fill the tranny with MTF until it starts running out of the refill hole
put the bolt back in the refill hole (and washer if needed)

Get yourself a Haynes maintenance manual for your model honda

More questions..
Does anyone have those magnetic oil plugs? On my last civic im sure the drain plug from the gear box was magnetic as it had a whole bunch of small gunk and metal attached to the to the top?

all transmission plugs have magnetic bolts i'm quite sure of it.
it's quite normal to have that attracted to it.

There is a magnet stuck to the bottom of the tranny case that serves the same purpose.

Rough estimate on what Honda will charge me for a bottle of MTF tranny oil?

$10-$11 i think it was, maybe $12, per litre
you'll need about 2-3 litres.
