Hi all,
I've already searched the other Euro LED/Taillight threads to no avail - has anyone replaced the stock light bulbs (not the whole taillight assemblies) with direct LED replacements?
Ive been to a few auto shops and they have the common parking light wedge bulbs and old style push-turn bulb LED replacements. But none of them have the "fat wedge" style bulbs the Euro uses.
1) What is the technical code/description for the Euro's rear bulbs?
2) How many LED's per bulb do you need to get the equivelent brightness?
3) Where can I buy these LED bulbs from (shop or internet site)?
4) Do they comply with ADR standards?
5) Did they fit ok?

Nope, I have tried multiple bulbs. The rear positioning light uses a wedge. And there isnt any single led bulb that projects beam sideways as much as a conventional bulb does. This is very crucial as most of the light has to be reflected. Out of 5 different led bulbs, the stock one still gives the brightest beam

go too jaycar and explain to them what you are after, if they dont have anything too suite there will be some kit they can sell you to make your own led bulbs. if it all goes too plan throw up some pics.

@curik, do you think its possible to put a bit of reflective alliminium or plastic mirror on the head of the LED's to shoot the light to the back and sides?
@dhdevil, thats a possibility, although I'd rather buy the bulb pre-made if possible.
@stephen, nice link, i'll have a look at superbrightleds.com

Hi, it is possible, but you will be ruining the reflection of the light, so it wont look good from behind. you could try drilling lots of holes on the reflector just to fit single 05 mm leds and run them in series or parallel. It will look nice as the link that stephen gave.

Actually these LED's have a few LED's at a 90 degree angle, so they may work fine in the Euro:
Unique 15-LED Design has 9 LEDs aiming out the end and 6 radially mounted LEDs aiming 90 degrees from the base

yes this might work really well. but for the 168 bulbs, i havent found one yet that has enough leds radiating outwards

There are new LED bulbs available now that are high intensity ("WLED-WHP LED Wedge Base Bulbs"), basically a single one of these LED's is as bright as 6 of the usual LED's.
Anyways Ive ordered a couple of those, plus a bunch of other bulbs including the rear brake lights. I'll post up the outcome...
