depends on wat needed to be done.. If it's a simple service, den i guess you be better off doing it your self EG. spark plugs(super cheap wat $25 bucks a set?), engine fluid($35 for Caltex 20w-50w magnitex), fuel filter($35 bucks i think from Honda for my EK anyways wouldn't be much more for EG), oil filter($15? from supercheap or u can be fussy and get geniune honda for about $20).. and ofcause.. a few hours of elbow grease but it's worth it

as for a full service.. depends on your ride.. for my car to doa full service inc Brake fluid($25 from Kmart), Automatic gearbox fluid (killer! need about 5 liter cost about 50 bucks!), Brakes if it needed to replace ($100 bucks a set for disc brake.. similar for Drums(?)) Timing belts($200 bucks for belt buy from honda; labour is also expansive).. ummm also as well as other stuff like light bulbs if any are blown, rotate the tires from the front to the back.. have to look at what car you have. this is if you want to do it yourself and if your suss about whats goin into your car..
but some mechanics around my area charge about $290 for everything..however most of the stuff is not geniune and the oil they give u is rubbish...:D

Try ask any Honda dealer and they will charge you about 500 inc timing belt (quote gotten about a week ago)

ok hope this helps..
end of my essay..:D

wah.. most of your prices are wrong.
lol
Auto transmission fluid is about $11 a litre, use only genuine honda! 3 litres is needed for automatics.
timing belt for a d series is about $60
brake fluid even genuine honda is about $8 a bottle
genuine honda oil is about $28
aftermarket pads will set you back $60, and rear exhange shoes are about $40

genuine oil filter is about $16
and fuel filter, is about $35
genuine plugs are about $5 each, x4

water pump genuine honda is about $280 or so.

Genuine shit is best, but expensive. You can buy shit from super cheap and other stores but best to steer clear of power steering and trans oil, use the real shit for these.

and please use genuine coolant as well which is $40 for 5litres.
i can't stress this enough, as i've seen cheap and expensive coolant fock up things on hondas.

most honda items are reasonably priced compared to aftermarket, well, service items that is.

it's not a matter of it working.
it's that it cuases damage in the long run, premature corrosion of items, i've seen it happen numerous of times.

i don't really care if someone uses different coolant after i recommend them, because it ain't my car, lol.

 Genuine parts all the way. I learned the hard way and bought some cooper fuel filter. It wasn't much cheaper than the OEM fuel filter but the thing didn't fit and it was on a Sunday when the Honda dealer was closed! :(

The slight extra you may have to pay for OEM parts far out weighs the head ache that poor quality third party parts causes.

I requested a quote via email and never got a response from Honda ><

The quote was for a tappet adjustment on a b16a. Any clues?

Take it to a Honda Aftermarket Specialist. Price should be much cheaper. Genuine Honda mechanics are like high class hookers, same result, but charge 10x more.

$550-650 would be about right for most full majors for honda models.
that is for a full major service without any aditional repairs like brake pads, cam belt etc

thats using 100% genuine honda parts and fluids

as for dealers being expensive.... we get so many customers coming back to us from 'cheaper' places like local mechanics or ultratune, brakes plus etc it's not funny. we also get these smaller workshops calling and asking us for help whenever there is a problem with a car, or even instructions on how to replace a cam belt. we also get so called 'honda specialists' subletting work to us they don't have the tools/knowledge required for jobs.

we had a car in last week that had been to one of these cheaper places, he showed us his paperwork. the mechanic charged him for valve clearance adjustment when the rocker cover had never been off the engine

20w-50 magnitex? :confused::confused:

cam belt $500?
good one! i work in service at a dealer and there isn't a single honda that is $500 for replacement and that includes accords with balance belts and cam seals that need replacement at the same time. cam belt pricing varies between model and car but most come to about $340 (some less, some more)

unless you have a mechanic you can REALLY REALLY trust take it to a dealer coz that way you know the mechanics have the technical knowledge and skills required to do the job PROPERLY, they have all the right tools and diagnostic equipment and they only use genuine parts and fluids for you.

']$550-650 would be about right for most full majors for honda models. i work in service at a dealer

I have a 1999 Civic Coupe which is due for its 80,000km service. I rang around our four local Honda dealerships to get quotes and the price differences were staggering between them.

South - $875
North - $690
West - $850
City - $915

All except North include overhaul of the brake master cylinder, which they state is part of the standard log book service schedule. North states that it is NOT part of the standard service schedule. I checked my car's maintenance schedule and it only states an INSPECTION of the master brake cylinder...so this suggests North is the only one telling the truth and the other three dealerships are OVERHAULING this unnecessarily and telling lies that it is PART OF THE 80,000KM SERVICE! This is why there is such a price difference in favor of North.

Since you work in service, could you please clarify for me who is telling the truth? Is an overhaul of the master brake cylinder required as part of the 80,000k service even though the manual clearly states it is to be inspected only?
