2004 Monaco Grand Prix

This round of the F1 gran prix lies in monaco. Last year, Jenson Button was looking extremely fast in his uncompetitive car......but unfortunately put his car into a wall at full speed. He was very lucky to escape without serious injury. He claims that he isnt intimidated by the circuit - located on the streets, with no margin for error- he (along with the rest of the paddok) are expecting BAR to challenge for the podiums.....we'll have to wait 'n see.

NB- because of some tradition (i forget) , there will be no friday practice - instead, thursday (today) will see the two practive sessions usually held on fridays.

michael will win. no doubt about that.
button second.
montoya third.

i also, like jason, believe that kimi will have a good race this weekend, although im looking it from a relative perspective to his other grand prixs this year, which have turned out disastorous.

I predict a Honda win..

Why?? Well...

Remember the Ligier team?? They scored a nice position at monaco a while back..... albeit with a Mugen engine from memory....

lol that was in 1996 and with a crap team crap driver crap engine. it was just 100% luck that oliver panis ended up winning that one and only grand prix of his.

Webbers car caught fire on his flying lap and the session was ended for several minutes.
He even got out of his car and got a fire extinguisher and helped the marshalls put it out.

Michael was quickest for the day!

I think renault would of made Trulli's car alot lighter after there success last round, they know that the car is quick of the start and that monaco is a hard place to pass.
So with him being in pole with a quick car for the first 15 laps this really could play into there hands!
Especially if Ralf isn't on the pace straight away (which i can see happening) and Trulli's lead just gets bigger and bigger, which will be helping him to when pit stops come into play!

This just hasn't been Webber's weekend with his car on fire and him missing alot of practice, hopefully he can at least get 1 or 2 points.

Kimi is finally in the top 6 :D
I thought this round will be the turn aound for the McLaren team, with David sitting in 9th.

BAR honda are on 3rd and 8th, I hope they can hold out because there is alot of points there for the constructures championship and they can have a nice sealed break behind renault. (depending on the out come of this race)

Should be a good race overall...

I don't think it matters where you start in regards to M. Shumi - he simply waits til you pit, puts in a few hot laps, and kisses your ass goodbye....

Errr....Ralph Shumi changed is engine...and hence is demoted 10 places on the grid!

JENSON IS STARTING ON THE FRONT ROW!!!

....that means sato starts 7th too!

I think its gonna be very very close between shumi and the michelins......i think/hope michael has chosen the wrong tyre compound (hard).

WOW, what a race. Jenson came oh SO CLOSE!

Thats gotta be one of the greatest races iv seen.....i love monaco!!

Was awesome to see MS retire!

....and soo intense seeing Jenson close the gap - eventually finishing 0.47 seconds behind Trulli.

Sato had such a great start - gained 3 positions on the first lap - only to have his engine blow up in the second lap!

......i sure was on the end of my couch and jumping up and down for the last few laps......what a great race!

Yep, and as bill woods (that his name, the channel 10 sports tonight fella) said, when schumacher isnt in the race things get very very close. However it can be argued that the ferrari's have the optimum setup for any other track apart from monaco. As for Sato's Honda dropping the oil like that, what a pity, absolute gun from the start. He went out in good spirits though, he seems a very respectable F1 driver. Schumacher was right pissed off with that helmet getting launched :P and williams were even enticing him to go and step up to them, F1 Team brawl W0000000! Alonso's exit came outta no where, it was very hard to tell what went on due to the camera's, my mate who follows Alonso was devastated, and now wants to kill Ralf Schumacher :P Overall a brilliant race, and as I predicted before the race even started "there are gonna be hsitloads of crashes" haha!

VTEC16
24-05-2004, 02:05 AM
hahah

the helmet thing was funny as!.....after that the ferrari crew were ushering away the cameras!!

RS is such a tool.....he always causes at least one retirement per race.

yeh...only 9 cars actually finished!....a bit like last year i guess.

Dylan

yeah it was a good race. i was really worried about fisichella tho rolling upside down. really scary shit. it just shows when an engine blows you really need to have blind faith that where you are driving there isnt a car there. looks like fisichella had too much faith and bad luck that coulthard was right in his path.

those marshals at monaco are crazy. im sure one of the jordans came centimeters from taking him out. really stupid thing to do.

finally schumi gets some bad luck. good to see trulli get his first win.

to be honest i fell asleep half way thru the race not because it was boring ,but because i was tired. i didnt tape it either.

ahh well surely it will turn up on bittorrent.

and looks like all our predictions were way off. hehe o well i predicted button in second :D

I TOLD YOU ALL MICHAEL WOULDN"T FINISH :P

Good to see Fisichella get out ok, what about Sato hitting Michael at the start, just bumping through him...
Trulli did an excellent job to win the race, full credit to him!

The big question is ralf and Alonso, Because it was under blue flags and i'm guessing Ralf being an idiot thought he'd keep the pace up while Alonso goes on the outside and look what happened?
Alonso crashed
I loved the finger to Ralf, Go Alonso!

But the first crash due to Sato's engine blow was pathetic.
In my opinion with the grid locked up like that Sato should of let some through (he knew his engine was about to go) but doing what he did and continueing and being 4 seconds slower was stupid.
And look what happened, he caused Fisichella to flip it due to the smoke of the engine!
Even David said it was an inexperienced thing to do!
But its F1 i spose!

What a race!

I blame Panis for Sato's blow up, his stuff up on the starting grid cooked the Honda engine :) ( well we gotta blame someone )

Sato's Launch was awsome, I liked the bit where Louise was interviewing Coulretart and he was pissing down BAR and on about how he thinks sato jumped the start Then they just cut him right off to go to Alonzos crash :)

Pity Sato's car blew up. Otherwise, it woulda been interesting to watch if he could've kept Barrichello and Schuey at bay from Button and the three others in front of him.

Good on Button to come in secong. Congrats to him and to Honda for yet another podium placing.

When i found out that Schuey was in 5th grid starting position, i knew then there was no chance for him to win at all. I mean, come on, it's Monaco GP...the track is sooo tight dat there's hardly any chance to overtake. And to be honest, I was surprised when Schuey locked on his brakes and left the race, not because that made him out of the race, but because he actually made a mistake!

Congrats to Jarno Trulli. He raced amazingly. Under heaps of pressure, but still managed to come out tops!!

To all those that din watch this race....SHAME ON YOU!! :P The best of the season so far!!

i think it was all a strategy for BAR. they knew satos engine was going to blow because of that extra warmup lap, so they told him to "get a jump start and hold the ferraris at bay until jenson pulls a gap".

thats what i rekon happened anyway. it would make sense.
