Need to find out if the following Honda models have knock sensors which will prevent pinging or take advantage of high octane fuels:

1999 1.6 Civic GLi
2001 2.0 CR-V
2004 3.0 Accord V6
2005 1.7 Civic GLi

Thanks.

As far as I know all OBD systems have a knock sensor. I would have to look them up but I am 99.9% sure they have one.

No, not all OBD cars have knock sensors.

The later model ones listed above *should* have one, but thats a guess.

All those should have a knock sensor. Unless that 99 civic has an old school D series with a P28 ECU :p
It basically depends on the ECU. The P28 ECU doesn't have a knock sensor, which was used for early 92-95 D series engines

Here's some good info~

So let me get this straight...

If a car has a knock sensor but tuned to run on regular ol' 91 octane, putting 98 octane in it would be advantageous or not? Or would 95 octane be better?

Generally 95RON should provide a bit more power and efficiency.
95RON is more refined and has additives to keep the engine in good condition, so that alone is a good reason to use 95RON.
imo 98RON would be a waste of money for a 91RON tuned engine.

try one tank of 91RON, then a tank of 95RON using the same driving style, and calculate the efficiency difference. Its hard to judge the performance increase unless you do a dyno

if its just you trying to make the car go faster by using higer octane fuel, just give it a try. I've noted even on cars tuned at 91 RON they seem to get better power with higher octane fuels. Just don't go backwards
