hi pple,

I currently have a 95 eg hatch Gli

I m realli keen to do a b16a conversion and was quoted ard the 5k mark for one wif the exchange of my current engine by Honbits in perth.

i would like to ask isit a good idea to install in an LSD at the same time?
which LSD is recommended?

I m basically looking for some fun driving...being amply quick and daily driveability.

wat kind of mods would i be lookin at after the conversion?
full exhaust system airfilter vtech controller?

thanks for ur help guys

honda newbie here...

Its a waste of money if you are going to sell the car in a year or so. Being in WA, I'd look for an imported EG6 with the B16A in it stock.

Honda EG6s were optioned with a Quaife-style LSD, find a gearbox with it in it and you are set. Dont waste money on an aftermarket one.

There is no such thing as VTECH - please don't use the word again, it makes you out to be an uneducated noob/riceboi!

VTEC controllers are shit and a waste of time unless you have dramatically changed the cam profile/engine dynamics. These are a riceboi mod so they can get to hear the sound cut in earlier while the car runs like shit.

Best you can do is CAI (not exposed to engine bay pod, this is a riceboi mod), mandrel bent 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch exhaust with high flow cat and muffler. Do not buy cheap aussie off the shelf extractors, they are shit and don't flow as well as a stock B16A header - you need to spend 800-1200 bucks on a JDM spec one.

Best bet: Sell the GLi - it's crap, buy an EG Si or VTi for more power and just do some tuning mods as above on it.

do it if your going to keep the car ... otherwise you'll lose out

but if you like paying for the "enjoyment" like i do, then go for it ...

and yeh, with a B16A or even a VTi or Si it is good to get an LSD ... you'll get more power to ground

VTECH!!!!!

Anways EG6s are very rare to find now....

Maybe u can pick up a LSD from a integra Type R in Aust for a good price, seen some ppl sell em here and there.

WA tends to slip them in the way Vic and Qld used to from what I understand. I saw a few EG6s when I was there years ago.

yeah honda bits has one at the moment... its a fair bit expencive and they've just been picking at it for a while... but $5K for it all in and done sounds pretty good. If you've got the money there and are just after a toy for now Go for it. But yeah $5K is a pretty good price really. Unless your mechanicly mindedish and wanna give it a shot.

It pisses me off when people say VVTi or VCT when refeering to Honda VTEC, but its wors when they say my car has VTEC when they dont have a Honda, when in fact its VVTi or VCT or what ever.

any one here know what VTEC actally stand for !!!!!

hey pple...

i went down to Honbits in perth today ...theres tis JDM EG9 b16a available according to the guy which has done abt 80000kms also according to the guy..he told me its 3300 for the b16a wif trade in for my Gli motor and box and another grand for putting it in..means 4300 drive in and drive out

asked him abt the b18s and he said its an additional 500.

wat i wanna ask is hows the JDM b16a diff frm aust spec ones?isit more powerful like the JDM s15s compared to 200sx in aust?

seems to me i could be better off doin the b18 conversion since its 500more?

lastly, wats the diff wif EG6s and EG9s?

thanks alot

4,300 sounds like a great price to me man. Although the fact you give away your old engine is a bit sad, but you wouldnt have used it anyway I guess. Try and bargain down to 4,000 if you can since they're keeping the old motor.

the JDM B16A and the B16A2 (AUDM spec) have some different things such as a different compression ratio (10.2:1 to 10.4:1 <- Correct if i'm wrong guys!) and some little fixes in the ECU etc. There are probably more, but I cant remember at this moment.

An EG6 is a B16A powered hatchback, whereas an EG9 is a B16A powered sedan :D

Hope this helps! :D

Ryosuke

cool...so m i rite to say wif the different compression ratios, the JDM engine will hav a few more kWs to its list?

prob i'll try to ask him to throw in the disc brake conversion for my rears

hehe :)

oh and one more thing...the guy told me its impossible to tell the yr of the engine frm the frontcut ...the onli way is frm the seatbelts..wonder is tis was true in any sense..

Good choice with the B18!

Is the suspension still stock? Do you plan on upgrading it anyway?

I don't think EG GLi's came with rear discs so upgrading from drums would be a wise choice... 8)

the engine is arriving in 2weeks according to the guy at honbits...and prob. add another 2weeks frm there to get the engine in...

yeah conversion for the rears to discs are $440 as quoted...im tryin to ask him to throw it in for the price..also some strut braces as well..hopefully...

i think the front brakes change to integra ones should be included in the price...damn..i forgot to check..arghh!!

and regarding the suspension..do i need to change it urgently?since the b18c is a heavier engine supposedly??

should i be able to give S13s a run for their money wif the new engine in??hopefully eh...hehe...wanna shock some of my mates 8)

hmm OK.. please PM me about this ASAP.. I am in Perth..

[acronym:9f559989b6="Japanese Domestic Market"]JDM[/acronym:9f559989b6] B16A2/3 is 170HP, AUS B16A2 is 160HP.. the gains are as someone said on here allready, from slightly higher compression and [acronym:9f559989b6="Engine Control Unit"]ECU[/acronym:9f559989b6] tweaks.

man if you have a GLi, get your suspension and brakes done BEFORE you get a [acronym:9f559989b6="Double Overhead Cam"]DOHC[/acronym:9f559989b6] [acronym:9f559989b6="Valve Timing and lift Electronic Control"]VTEC[/acronym:9f559989b6] !!

Setanta (or whatever), I dont know where the hell you saw any EG6's in Perth !! havnt seen any in 7 years in Perth !! there's 2-3 EG9's on the road, but no EG6 as far as I know.
