Whats the go with the keys?
When i bought my civic private sale it had 2 black keys and one red one in the glove box. The guy said never use the red key or you wont be able to start your car again.
Just wondering, is this true and what exactly is the red key for?
Cheers

Its the master key =) its usually used to programme a new or replacement black key for da car

i dunno if its true that you wont be able to start your car again? i think i've heard of people using them but their cars still work. =9 but yeah i wouldn't use it, and dont lose them!

wrong wrong, the red key is just a master key to cut your keys. It does not have the immobliser chip in it, thus it cannot start your car. It will not ruin your immobliser.

Think about this, would honda give you a key that would Fu(k up your car if you used it by accident??? There would be a big uproar and alot of people would have complained about it.

I only got 1 key with my car when I bought it....still only have 1 key. :(

Do I need to go to Honda to get another one, or just go to a normal locksmith?

the red key does have a transponder in it. and it is used during the relearnng proccess of adding or removing black keys.

with out it you cannot add or remove genuine honda black keys.

but as you said it will not damage the immo system in the car, it will jut not start the car, after 30 seconds, you can retry with the black key and off you go.

DONT LOOSE YOUR RED KEY PEOPLE

not all hondas use the red key system

save your $$$

go to a lock smith and get a clone of your exsisting black key

i've seen locksmith quotes to duplicate these types of keys range from about $70-$110

O so the red key does have the rest transponder in it. Thanks ECUMAN

I was always under the impression that it didn't have one since it doesn't start the car.

But yes cloning a black key is cheaper $70-$80 normally unless you get ripped.

^ thats how much i paid 70-80

and it wud b smart if u only got one key to get it cloned /copied
as that one key u got can only start the car otheriwse ud b in a heap if u lost the one only key

I got told when i bought my car that only the red key will unlock doors and not to try it in the ignition. as it can stuff it up. was told that from the honda dealership.
