Hey guys,

I'm gettin my 92 Honda Accord turbocharged (should be back Saturday!) but it's still got the stock auto tranny in it. The guys at the workshop I'm getting it done at are kind of concerned about the tranny and if it'll hold up or not. They recommended getting the auto serviced before I thrash it too hard but I dunno, I mean, I would really like the auto strengthened slightly until I swap in the manual gearbox (which probably won't realistically happen for about 6 months). I just wanna know if anyone out there knows of any really good tranny performance specialists in Sydney. I spoke to a couple of places and apparently the parts to strengthen my gearbox (or any Hondas) are difficult, if not impossible, to find.

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a place that might be able to do something about it for peace of mind.

Thanks

Who's doing the conversion? They should have thought of the tranny before starting the conversion... :?

It might have issues holding up...the Accord auto boxes tend to not like turbo's. Really depends how much power will be going through there.

There is a company in the US (i think their name is Level 10) that does auto strengthening, perhaps you could get the parts for it from them or something. I doubt anyone here will have the parts to do it (probably hasnt been done before here!)

Yea

Thing is I don't wanna spend too much money on it cause I'll be going manual soon anyway (that's the next step I'm taking in terms of performance anyway).

Maybe I could import a shift kit or something. I found heaps of products for my transmission that I could import from America. I just dont wanna spend too much money on it but I wanna drive it around without being too paranoid about it!

I think I'll just have to call around and see if I can find a performance cluth specialist who knows their shit with Hondas.

vti-2 --> I always knew there'd be an issue with the auto tranny cause I'm gonna be swapping it out soon anyway. I think for the most part its just me being way too paranoid than I probably need to be. I just don't want the car to be off the road while I save up money to buy the manual cause I blew my auto

Hey Blade,

I've got a honda accord 96 VTI and turbocharging it is becoming an option for me. So how much did it cost and how much power are expecting to gain? Mine is auto too, so i wanna see how urs turn out.

Hey guys ...

Took the car in to the auto place today and they told me it was ****ed. Basically, the manual conversions gonna happen about 2 months earlier than I expected (at least I have the money atm anyway).

The auto will survive so long as I don't drive it too hard all the time so all I'm gonna do is nurse it for a couple of weeks and then book the car in for the conversion.

I found a 92 Accord eXi manual gearbox, clutch assembly, shifter assembly, pedal box and everything I should need for the conversion for $1450 which I'm happy to pay anyway!

Keep you posted :)

The dude said it wasn't related to turbocharging and has shat itself more cause of age! The turbo just means it'll destroy it quicker than it wouldve if I had of kept it n/a

The EXi auto transmission is pretty weak even for non tuned duties, I know of one that blown the gear box twice and needed rebuild done to it. Head down to Good Performance @ Yennora and have a chat with the boys there, they'd tell you the best option to head and they can have it rebuilt/rehauled if required.
