View Full Version : Removing piston from connecting rod

Hey guys,

Ive gota eg5 engine and im having trouble separating the piston and the connecting rod. If anybody has done this before it would be great help

pay a machine shop to press it out.. they are like crazy stuck..

from memory the backy yard style is to...
heat them up in an oven..
when they are hot.. Tap out the holding rod

You need to have them pressed out. You can use a torch to heat up the rod but the pin will expand as well. It doesn't take a big press to to this but still needs a constant amount of pressure. Also make sure there are no snap rings holding the pin in place. It is easier to just have a shop pull them apart and put them back together.

and besides.. youn will most likily damage either the piston or rod if you do it backy yard style...

Which area in Sydney as the are 100's of machine shops that could do this just do a search in the yellow pages.

That would be a maximum price if they are serious stuck. I was using it as reference guide, if he takes $60 along then he should leave with change. Obviously, it is up to thw workshop as to how much they want to charge based on how long it takes... Whether they have to use a lubricant, etc.

press it out man :thumbsup:

some hudraulic hoses shops may also have a hydraulic press and a bit of gear that can help u out.
