Anyone know the legal size for rims on a honda accord? cheers

well im pretty sure the rule goes 2 inches on top of your original size
without it being illegal

so lets say stock 15 = 17"

someone confirm

SiReal
18-09-2006, 11:24 PM
yes. that is correct. and 1 inch wider. so, 17x7.5 is max. cos stock for V6 is 15x6.5 and 4cyl is 15x6.

ye i know bout that, but see my mate just told me that his other mate bought a newer accord that came in 16", does the rule apply for all models or just that year of model?

Int3gra-T

all models

so ure saying, if someone buys a honda accord 89, and a honda accord 07 is released and that 07 honda is brought out with 18", then the person who bought the 89 honda can stick 20" on?.. a little confusing! but u should get it

Int3gra-T
18-09-2006, 11:33 PM
lol,
look on the side of your door,
it should have a lil sticker there
saying all the information about the car,
it will have the stock size of the rims, add 2 inches and 1 inch width
each car will be different,

15 = 17,
16 = 18, and so forth

so no, if the 07 comes with 20" the 89 will not be able to put 20"
only what its original wheel size is.

yeh i might go and buy 17" to be safe ey, dont wana get defected and have to sell em so cops dont break ma balls.. do u no anything bout a air breather?

its not 2 inches. its the rolling diameter. if you get bigger rims you can fix the problem by buying a thinner profile tyre. and dont worry about what size rims on an accord, cops wont even bother pulling you over unless they're realllly bored. i had 17"s on my EG civic for 2 years and i onli defected once and that was because i had blue parking lights and it caught the cops attention.

I think 18s on an Accord are OK, even though its illegal. Because when you put things in ratio, 18s aren't large for our whale accords. some may say, normal. Only picky anal cops might dick u for it.

It stupid cos cars of the similar size (i.e. commodres) come factory fully lowered with 19" sports wheels already.

18z are fine . . . but if you want a comfortable ride . i'd go 17z

I think 18s on an Accord are OK, even though its illegal.

18's are NOT illegal.

The rules are, you have to be within 15mm of the original rolling diameter, and cannot increase track by more than 25mm (i think, cant exactly remember that reg but its around there).

You can actually engineer any size rims you like, as long as the speedo has been recalibrated, the rims do not stick out from the bodywork, you dont foul on the inner guards/suspension/brakes and the track is within specification if you havent made any alterations to structural suspension bits etc.

my rims are 18x8", which is +3" in diameter and +2.5" in width. No problems being engineered or passing through the ACT RTA.

Nah mate i was never been defected for anything on that car and it was too low but cops didnt even glanced at it. So no never been done but they are roadworthy anyway. The reason why im selling them is because iv just bought a euro and im going a different look i.e black with chrome dish. The wheels are in perfect condition, never been scratched on gutters.

no worries mate...what i am quoting is from the ADR's rather than from any particular state's RTA guidelines. The ADR's should override any stupidity tht a local RTA may have.

Also, as a bit of extra info, the national code of practice for vehicle modification has a suggestion that the tyre width shouldnt be 30% more than stock, and also has a table of suggested maximum rim width. Taking the 195 tyres that are standard on a 5th gen, it would mean you can stick tyres up to 250 width and it specifies a rim width of no more than 9" for these tyres. These are suggestions based on the relevant ADR (ADR 23 i think) and as you can see there is scope for significantly larger wheels and tyres even just going by their suggestions.

What you should do is check with a wheel shop to see what they think. I dont know if you remember the car GEMBEL. It was an orange widebody civic that was around a few years ago. Well, i bought that and in 8 months i got defected only once. The main reason for defects is driver attitude.

18s these day are not as extreme in size as what they were 3 or 4 years ago. Cops these days from my experience seem to only notice 20s +.

sorri for bringing up n old thread but iv got a lowered 5th gen with 18s, they fit perfectly, they look neat and not overkill which would catch cops attention and iv never had dramas with cops even wen one was looking over the car...,
also, my tyres are 225/40 r18 and its within 10mm of the original rolling diameter

2 inches above stock outer tread diameter

i.e

lower the profile, and up the diameter of the tread to fit larger rims

i put up the mod laws somewhere, it has the rim and tyre rules in it, search for that

beayni85
05-08-2007, 01:39 AM
it isnt 2 inchs tho, its a maximum of 25mm increase in width and total diameter must alter more than 5mm, pretty sure that was bout it, check my modlaw post says it all in there

yeh strugglin to find suspension for it atm, cant quite afford air-runners, and cant find any springs just to make do till i can afford them. Never had any issues with this car n cops ever. the local cops new my old car, pulled me over on average 2-3 times a week in my widebody s14a. but since swapping, no issues at all

i think most police dont do us VIP cars, simply for the fact that we aren't street racing stereotypes. we dont drive high powered, vehicles, and we dont drive carelessly. thats the general thought process i'm lead to believe.
