Hey peoples, just purchased a set of coilovers about 3 weeks ago, and now i can hear noises comming form the rear. it happens when i turn into a corner, even at very slow speeds. does anyone know what it could be.
I got these put in professionally.

Thanks.

Also, any other suspension upgrades? Different wheels? How much (approx) drop before and after coilover install?

20 bucks you are too low for the fenders and you need to roll them. It's the tires rubbing on the fenders. Mine did it too, just dropped the car too much and you either need to have a body shop roll the fenders or you need to raise the car. Makes a pretty cool sound though, like your car is a RC car!!

Yours sounds like the top coils rubbing against one another. Wrap them up with a little bit of rubber tape.

Rubbing against the next coil. It's just a padded tape made of rubber, about 1" wide and pretty thin. You just wrap it along the coils, so that when they compress, they don't knock against each other to make a clunk sound.

I think the coilovers MIGHT be too low and the springs are not held captive ~ resulting in repeated contact with the spring and shock...makes clunking and "metal tapping" noises.

well the funny thing is, the lower i go the more gap my spring sprung apart. maybe im not low enough??

The bigger the gap, the more clunking when it loses or gains contact with the upper mount.

ah great thx for that. so you think if i raise it to compress the springs more, it would reduce the noise?

Yes , since the springs will be captive (held) while static and dynamic ( that is , while stationary and moving)

not sure of your car, but it applies on our accords.

sway bar endlinks. Make sure they are nice and tight or else they will clunk when u go over speed humps and pots holes slowly.

It's more of a creeking sound than a clunking 1. it;s starting to b fairly noticable. it wasnt there when i first put them in. u can hear it even when going up and down speed humps.

the back is only lower by about 50 odd mm.

the car is definatly not scrubbing on guards, as i know what dat sounds like:p

The only thing i can think of is that when i go up n down driveways, one of the rear wheels comes about an inch off the ground. so could it to do with something starting to be loose somewhere??

You can try wrapping the tape around the springs first. You only need it in the first 3 coils. It's cheap and easy. So give that a go first.

it's all good now. took the car back to the machanics and all they did was tighten serveral bolts on the suspension components and sprayed some lubicant in the swaybar bushes.

Nah, you need it thicker. THe reason why I'm suggesting this because this is the easiest diagnostic fix that you can try on your own at home first before bringing your car to a mech to diagnose.

What about tennis racket grip? Do they sell cheap ones at KMart?
