Hey guys,

Looking at purchasing some KYB Excel G Strut replacements. Just wondering your opinions

- Cost v Performance
- Comparison with stock
- Other alternatives in the same cost bracket

Let me know what you think guys...

Cheers

from my research ages ago.. i couldnt remember..

but they wont that much cheaper than konis as they are harder to source in the land down under..

they have also known to blow under crazy driving..

Are they gas or oil filled? if oil filled.. its only really good for street apps

I run them in my accord with king springs.

Cost... not too expensive, I have sources. As for performance, I noticed a significant improvement over stock. Stock would not dampen the kings enough, and the rears blew with the lowered springs.

However, KYB dont consider these as a performance shock.

i use KYB excel-G's for my car.
i have a CE mirage.
they cost under 400$ for a set of 4.

i highly recommend them for a uprated oem replacement shock.

many cars have trouble keeping up with my mirage on the corners with coilovers and even kyb agx adjustables.

i give them the thumbs up:thumbsup:
absorbs the road very well.

something equivlent to them but maybe not as good are monroe GT gas with reflex.
more value for money than pedders sportryderz shocks.

I've replaced shagged shockers on my N14 with these units on standard springs. Not a bad shocker but I wound't consider them as being a performance shock, but definately good value for money

Yeah definately, I just put mine in and the ride is alot smoother. It is stiffer, and get feel it on shit roads, but overall a good value strut.

Yeah, using lowered springs too. Sits nicely at the front, but the rear sits up a bit.

Im sure the lowered springs are a contributing factor to the bumpiness and ride quality. But the KYB are a certain improvement over the stocks.

But as soon as you get KYB, you want to spend more on suspension! Ie. AGX's, Koni Yellows or other types of adjustables/coilovers.

i doubt very much kyb would make a series such as the agx and still have their base model shocks out perform it lol

haha agreed. i think the handling prowess of your mirage may due a few more factors than just the struts.
over all though i rate KYB. i had the AGX and they were very good for an adjustable strut. good value to.
on a side note KYB supply the struts for GAB and Tanabe (Sustec at least) coilovers. Also manufacture adjustable struts for Apexi. all based off the AGX but with different valving specs

its driver too and overall car balance.
with Excel Gs nd my suspension settings its very comfortable to push the car hard.

all im saying is dont underestimate the kybs evne if they arent adjustable.
i have gotten alot out of the ExcelG's and recommend to anyone.

Sorry guys to dig up an old thread... but i'm very interested in buying these shocks for my EK civic front and rear...

will i need to also buy struts to fit these in my car or will they slip into my current OEM struts?
