hi guys, i heard that you can professionally change the offest of your wheels by essentially grinding back the section where your wheels bolt up. is this true? it is dangerous? and where can it be done?
thanks

It is true, it can be dangerous and i'm not sure where it can be done.

By grinding back the surface of the wheel, you weaken the strutural integrity of the wheel itself. I haven't seen or heard of wheel failure due to such action but in most cases, i would advise that you avoid such action and stick to wheels that are made to suit (piece of mind as well)

if you want to change the offset - you can buy spacers

or even better, buy proper wheels with a deeper offset

do yourself a favour and by wheels that have the correct offset in the first place. You don't wanna risk your life let alone someone elses, just because of a set of wheels...

That assumes you want to increase your offset. As the original poster implied, he wants to decrease his offset.

You cant decrease your offset by buying spacers (the only way to do this would be to grind either the hub or wheel back). That being said, as SiReal mentioned, it is not a good idea.

You need better springs to accomodate the extra weight over the rear of the car.

Do you have an audio install as well? Do you have standard springs or after market ones??

Other way around. By putting spacers in it will 'decrease' your Offset value (wheels stick out further). Grinding back will 'increase' Offset value (wheel sits further in)

Grinding back would not be recomended, unless approved by manufacturer.

Mixed them up, but that is what I meant :p.

+PQ point for noting my error :).

I asked aguy about rolling guards and he said my tyres stick out passed what a safe guard rolling would be.

I will have pictures tomorrow and will make a thread in here.
