hello all....

i have a 93 teg vtir and i use BP Ultimate. I just replaced my fuel filter (located in the engine bay, not sure if theres another one on the car) on a full tank of petrol i can only get like 300ks if that. I havent had the heater or the air con. on either and yes i do drive hard sometimes but not all the time.

My question is this normal? i remember my car giving about 400ks on a full tank of petrol, why has it dropped so much? what can i do to make my fuel last longer, is there something wrong with my car? petrol is expensive these days as you all know, so any help will be appreicated.

thanks...

There are many factors that can affect how much fuel is used, i.e. if you drive a lot around the city (stop-start), you tend to use up quite a far bit of fuel as opposed to highway driving. Say for e.g., in my Civic VTi-R (45 litre tank), I get around 280-290kms driving around the city and occasional 'spirited' runs, but on a long dist. trip to Canberra, I can get almost 400kays out of a fuel tank.

blocked air cleaner can cause bad fuel consumption.
lazy or dead O2 sensor as well

plugs can help your read the problem. take one out and look at the carbon deposits on them. if there black as then your engine is running rich.

hmm my best ever was
500km on a 38L tank of fuel
haha
must mean my car is eating too little fuel (read slow)

Also the amount of cold starts you do per day can also affect it. Ever noticed in the morning when you start driving the car drinks alot of petrol. So the amount of times u stop and start can have an effect on the consumption.

blocked air cleaner? what exactly is that?, i also forgot to mention that i got my sparks (ngk platiums and air filter repaced last week, but the problem has been there for longer)

is there any way of checking the O2 sensor? how much is it for a mechanic to replace? or can i get it and do it myself?

yeah but i usually only do two cold starts, one at aobut 7:30am in the morning to go to work and the other at 5:30pm to head back home

dude...you're soo lucky...mine is bout 250km on a long distance trip...about 160km on city travel man...
but my car is running too rich now...haven't got it tuned..but soon...

actually spark plugs does alot of fuel saving...try to check out your plugs before taking any further steps...it can save you bit of fuel...

you will need a O2 sensor tester to test your oxygen sensor,

you can buy a kit from jaycar that will do the job for about $20

or u can use a ociliscope or some kind of waveform viewer. you O2 sensor you repond to the slighest throttle change and should cyle from rich to lean back and forth when the engine has reached operating temp.

160km on city travel thats nasty, is it stock ?

then better check out the clearance from the spark plugs..very important...4 of the plugs must have the same clearance as well...

ECU-Man..
nope...just bitz of modification...not much done...a STD ITR can take me anytime...MUAhahahaha....
actually the tuning is not done yet...looking for some people to do...either TODA aus...or RAZTECH or Protech...

no not the same. I wanna clear that up, a misconception is that razztech tuner only knows hondata, or is the same as someone else etc. its not, and ill be talking more about it later.

ahhhh. I see. It would probably go better with a tune as well.
