anyone know of this or how to fix it??

Sounds like a manufacturing defect if it is new. The epoxy was mixed too vigorously and had many little bubbles in it.

I see, then someone might have cut down the hood with a rotary to remove swirls or scratches, leaving behind almost no epoxy left to coat the CF fibres.

I would highly recommend not trying to sand it down/cut it down.

The bubbles will fill with sanding dust and be MUCH more obvious. Instead of little clear bubbles, you'll have tons of white balls.

hmm just had another close inspection, instead of bubble holes it look like some of the thread is coming out, and casuing it. :S:S

The money they pay for CF hoods, they actually end up with fibreglass ones with 1 thin layer of CF on top for aesthetic purposes.

not that there's really anyone out there making a quality cf part anyway...

if the threads are pulling out though, it must be exceptionally low quality

I really find it hard to believe it's pure CF. Even the much bigger name companies don't make solid carbon parts.

neither of them make what I would consider a high quality carbon part.

They're in the market of making aesthetic parts. They're not meant to actually be performance oriented(or if they are, they're doing a VERY poor job of it).

Don't think so. Cwest hood's are supposedly US$1100, and that's too cheap for full CF. I know a full CF hood for the Echo is AU$3000.

that is the thing, the retail cf market IS an aesthetic market. most of the real 'performance' carbon fibre items are custom or one off items.

at the retail aesthetic market for cf i believe they are amongst the best (if not the best)

alil off topic...:(

but anyways, so i guess they is no way of fixing this, just have to live with it huh? cant like stick a another layer of CF on top and coat it? prob not worth the money.

If you know what you're doing, you could always recoat with the appropriate resin, especially when the fibre's exposed. Thats how I repair my carbon fibre stuff, but then, I know what I'm doing.

i had this on my CF Wing, it almost looks like its bubbling from heat/fire. you can feel it on the surface, and you cant remove it.

Quality CF Products are SPOON ones. the weaving is very fine and tight, and i have never seen any other CF thats better than spoon CF. i also notice that spoon CF can take quite a beating from the sun, and doesnt tend to fade, even after a VERY LONG TIME.

vouch for spoon quality in CF.

go to a cf place and show em wats going on.....tell em u need a new coat of resin or something to stop it getting worse, pay the cash and done.
in the end paying a pro to fix it up will be the cheapest option
