Fire coming out of the exhaust...

i was driving behind an RX7 today.. and suddenly fire came outta its exhaust..

is there something wrong with the exhaust?

or is it some modification to da car to purposely do that??

its called back fire .. cause when u get a bigger exhasut system it allows more oxygen to go in the exhaust which mixes with the unburn fuel and causes a sparks..

it could be a problem it could be modded... possible causes he has an ignitian cut instead of a fuel cut. Advanced timing/poor timing. Its basic cause either way is fuel not being detonated in the engine and when it enters a hot exhaust it leaves out the end of the pipe as a flame or a POP POPPOP POP POP, this ussualy will happen hitting the rev limiter or when accelerator is released after reving hard

LOLOLOLOL...... NOOOOOOOOOOO. Even if you have a small exhaust, as long as combustion is incomplete leaving behind excess fuel, you'll get backfire.

It's because the RX-7 (and other turbo cars) when boosted at high psi is purposely run rich when at WOT so that predetonation is prevented. When the driver lifts off the throttle to shift gears or to stop accelerating, the throttle body closes to stop air from being charged into the intake manifold. But, the injectors are just before the intake ports, so there is a small portion of intake charge that has insufficient air to carry out a reasonable combustion (combustion needs oxygen). The hot exhaust gases with excess fuel goes out the exhaust manifold to the exhaust tip where it mixes with oxygen in the air and burns in a belch of flames.
