Or you could go to repco and get some NGK coppers for $3.50 a plug if you are friendly, and replace them more often. Simple choice really...

Yup, coppers are a good alternative too especially if the car is running rich or lean.

BTW, SupercheapAuto sale until 13th October has Copper NGK from $3.50 and Iridiums (unsure which brand, should be NGK too) from $18.

Plus its really easy to change the spark plugs in the b series motors, so it just depends on you.

You shouldn't have to pull it. There should be a sticker somewhere in your car stating the spark plug part number.

that sticker is on your bonnet.

the amount of times you change the copper plugs at every 5000kms.
so you times (3.5 x 4)20 to reach the 100,00kms mark, you end up spending more.
which is $280

where you can go buy it from a dealer, for example for $132 which will last you 100,00kms.

Don't coppers last for over 20,000km if the car runs perfect? Of course, if it is rich or lean then they shit themselves quickly, but same thing if you use iridiums. Iridiums are good on a well-running car but if the car is running rich/lean, they die even quicker than coppers.

Your Vehicle:
1999 - on Honda Integra 1.8L Type R, V-Tec B18C7
Spark Plug Part No. Plug Gap
Recommended Plug PFR6G-13 1.3

this is straight from the NGK website

If PFR6G-##is the platinum plug, then the IFR6E-##is the iridium counter-part assuming NGK's part numbering works like it should. However on my trawling through NGK's site, it seems that it only lists 1.1mm gaps for all the honda motors, even though after checking my workshop manual, even the earliest of vtec motors come with an OE 1.3mm gap.

If you are intrested in coppers, a cheap, and incredibly common plug is the BKR6E-##. Heat range of 6 is the same as the stock platinums; i've no idea if they exist in 1.3mm gaps but they certainly do in 1.1mm which you could no doubt gap larger if you felt the need.

Considering how easy it is to replace plugs, there is no way in hell i'll ever use anything but a cheap copper plug, they work brilliantly. Leave the iridiums to those sucked in by marketing.

(## in the part numbers is the electrode gap. I.e. 11 for 1.1mm, 13 for 1.3mm etc...)

tanks for the info dude, how do you know the part number i got up there is for the platinum one? i got that direct from the NGK site and i thought i was looking at the iridium range??

aaronng

You sure the gap is 1.3mm? Hondas usually have 1.1mm gaps. But no matter as the last 2 digits denote the plug gap and the first 6 digits will be the same no matter the gap size.

1.3mm gap size:
Standard BKR6ES-13
V-Power BKR6E-13
G-Power Platinum BKR6EGP (no gap number)
Laser Platinum PFR6G-13
OE Laser Iridium IFR6E13
Iridium IX BKR6EIX-13

should be underneath the Stock bonnet (plus other misc info like idle speed etc too)

No i'm not sure on the 1.3mm gap at all :) It certainly does seem a bit high. I only looked up the B17A1 as it's the only VTEC head I have a manual for; of which it came OE with a 1.3mm gapped plug.

Easy enough to get the part numbers for the 1.1mm though, just replace "13" with "11".

Nah, I meant that the part number Zilli got from the NGK site lists 1.3mm.

USDM DC2R's used 1.1mm though. Someone should check out JDM plug gaps.

i kno its an old thread but i didnt wana start my own coz i hav a simple question on this topic...

Overall... performance wise, what is the best plug: iridium, platinum or copper? Or is it just a matter of whats going 2 last longer?
