hey it just happened today, duno when but i did hit vtec tonight and heard alil thud when i was changing gears, but im not sure if that cause a problem.

anyways got home and realised my car had a strange noise at 1000-1200 rpm. anywhere above or below the noise is gone???!!

the noise sounds like a clicking metal noise. its coming from under the car im pretty sure, around the exhuast piping/cat area. cant exactly pin point it.

anyone know what it is?? help urgent! thank you!!

bolt might have come loose on exhaust either extractors or cat

a bolt would make noise at 1000-1200?

Could possible be a bolt. as 1000 -122 is a lowish idle andthing over and you might not be able to hear it so well.

your exhaust flange mayb loose... and that strange noise at 1200 rom may b a exhaust leak...

take it to a good mechanic to make sure.. or just jack up your car and c for yourself.

yeah jack it up.... put your hand around the gaskets so you can feel for any escaping air...

most likely a bolt though... you cant hear semi loose bolts at higher rpm coz the vibrations are so fast it turns into a high pitched noise that is easily covered by normal road and engine noise....

do you hear it when you accelerate hard then let off and kinda engine brake?

could also be the heatsheild, i had a mettalic rattle at ~3k rpm that was the heatsheild

Bottom End Knocking? o.0? Busted Bearing?

Bottom End Knocking? o.0? Busted Bearing?

not really knocking, its just like a high annoying pitch

do you hear it when you accelerate hard then let off and kinda engine brake?

when i rev, i hear it at 1000-1200 then its gone, as the rev drops back down, there it is again at the same rpm range.

ust jack up your car and c for yourself.

do i do this when the engine is on or off??
and what am i meant to be looking for here, feel the pipe for holes?
where are the loose bolts? can i screw them tight again myself or get a mechanic to do it?

well at work what i do is put it on the hoist start it .. then go all teh way up and get someone to block the exhaust from the rear and the gas will escape at the leaks.. then u should feel n see them.. then if its at a gasket area you can try tighten the bolts again or get a muffler shop to fix the gasket ..

damn dont have a hoist only car jack, might be alil too dangerous to do it in my driveway.

had a listen today again, and yea its defintly under my car cos i could heard it coming from under my gear stick.

Just jack ya car up and give everything a descent shake with ya hand. Tighten up every nut and bolt you can find and you'll be fine.

sometimes the heat sheild resonates and vibrates at cetain RPMs,

safely jack the car up on jack stands ( never just a jack ) and get under thier to find the noise while someone is reving the car.

also the exhaust could be hitting the shifter.

check for anything loose.

*** i got this from honda tech***
My buddy down at the muffler shop always takes the heatshields off any Honda w/ exhaust, otherwise they rattle like the devil. I've never noticed a hot shifter in any of the Hondas I've owned ( all with heatshields removed.) If you can provide any evidence to the contrary, I'd be happy to hear it.

heat shield for the cat is virtually under where the gear stick is ........

yea i would say more than likely...

if ur doing it while its on the car fitted might bea little tough to get top part off

in that case u can see the ruber things that are mounted to the car/exhaust unclip middle section umight get a bit more space

i had a look last night and i think its my cat. i hit it with a stick and sounded like something was either lose or its inside the cat and its moving and making the noise.

would this be a problem if i drove my car still? cos it would save me toe'ing it to a shop.

stanleym

shoudl be alright to drive just to a shop man..... i drove with mine rattling for a while seemed to donothin but i have bought new exhaust since

ok i jst had a look and yes my cat seem to have a lil wabble and there is a gap where the cat pieces (top and bottom) join. if you know what im talking about.

however i think my problem was that a lil rock or dust got into my cat and it was vibrating at certain RPMs. however when i tilted my car when i was jacking it up, the lil piece might of fallen out from the exhuast tip and now my noise it gone. however i think ill still go to midas to have my cat wielded (its not bolted together like yours stanleym,) together and remove my heatshield.

stanleym
04-10-2006, 03:08 PM
does that mean ur heat shield is welded on.......
anyway man good to hear thatr noise is gone hope midas get everythin done u wanted

EK4R
04-10-2006, 03:10 PM
no my heatshield is bolted on but i cbf taking it off
ill get it taken off when i get to midas.
hopefully they can wield my cat back together for cheap.
