as you all know i painted my nuts the other day....my wheel nuts.
i had done my wheel few days ago too but wasnt fitted till last weekend so thought i do a diy too.

aim:
bring cheapo looking rims back to new again

tool:

1x primer
1x colour paint
1x clear coat
1x newspaper
1x tape
1x solvent based cleaner

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/595/p1010170ad3.jpg

steps:

1/ clean your rim with solvent based cleaner. remove any uneven surfaces and stuck on dirty.

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/4903/p1010169nx0.jpg

2/ if you have tyres on your rims, you would need to cover it with newspaper and tape around the with tape to make sure paint doesnt get on your tyres and rim lip

http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/1782/p1010173gf1.jpg

3/ once clean, put rim on clean surface, prefer with no wind blowing dust, and cover the floor with newspaper ( i didnt cos im lazy ).

4/ spray primer on your rims, make sure its covering everything corner as its hard to reach tight spots and curves.

http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/4431/p1010174df6.jpg

5/ once primer dry, spray your paint colour on. you need to do this few layers of this as paint dont stick on perfectly the first coat. go light layers. wait until paint is dry then give another coat.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/2539/11qr4.jpg

6/ on with the clear coat. once again few layers to keep rim nice and glossy. add layers once first clear coat is dry. make sure again areas you painted is completely covered.

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/7673/131ej2.jpg

7/ i gave a really heavy coat of clear in the end and let it dry overnight. i dont think it was necessay but i only had alil clear left so i thought why not use it. no harm dont, except your carrying extra 0.003grams of weight

8/ remove newspaper and admire your new rims.

extra note:
people with rim lip, can use autosol from autobarne to clean up your polished rims and bring it to life.

wet n dry sandpaper can also be used for polishing before apply autosol. work from 500-2000 grit.

final look:

huge improvement, great stuff.
however is it just me or does the paint look a lil uneven around the edges like it seeped thru the tape or something?

blades? what blades?

Good one! You could CAREFULLY take a clean rag or "Q" tips with a LITTLE BIT of lacquer thinner on them and clean up any parts that aren't quite "Straight". Good to see some members trying their hand at DIY paint work.

yea but its all dried up now. would it still work? if so where i get this cleaner stuff?

i was thinkin maybe paint the whole rim instead of having a lip.

Even if the paint has dried a bit it and you get at it fairly soon (couple days) and make sure it's lacquer thinner it still should take it off. May have to dab it on and wait a few minutes for it to get soft.

ahh would paint remover work?? or dmg the rims.
i will go look for the lacquer thinner

You can stick the wheel on a wheel balancer and hold sand paper on the lip, this removing the excess paint AND if u use smother paper, it will also end up polishing it

lol nice work .. i dun the same thing

primer isnt really necessary, just give them a good clean and degrease!

clear coat if u want a more glossed effect, or just straight gunmetal if u want a more ... powdercoated effect... i put the clear coat on, regretted it at first, but now i like it . :)
