View Full Version : Check Engine Light Flashing!

Hi,

This problem has been happening for the past few weeks now.

Every now and then, when I take a corner a tad faster than normal, or if I was to just drive normally, then suddenly full throttle, my oil light will flash a few times then switch off.

I've checked my oil levels and there is plenty of oil. No shortage what so ever. I don't believe I drove hard enough to cause oil starvation, so I don't think not having a baffled sump has anything to do with it?!?

Could it be one of my sensors is stuffed?

I'm absolutely stumped as to what it could be. It's making me a bit paranoid and makes me think twice about giving the dc2r any.

Has anyone experienced such a problem, or heard of such a problem?

EDIT - IT'S ACTUALLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT'S FLASHING AND NOT THE OIL LIGHT.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I've heard of a similiar problem but the solution was low oil levels.

Strange situation you got there. I spose it could be a sensor problem. have you got an oil pressure guage you could rig up to monitor it??

It could also me some poor wiring causing ya problem.

I'm afraid I dont.

Someone has also suggested to me that it could have something to do wiht my power fc - knocking perhaps?!?

the same thing happened to me on my integra....when ever i took hard corners and then accelerated out of them the oil light would just lick on then off.....but my solution was that the oil was running a little low so just filled it up again....

maybe your oil pressure is low?

can it be the oil pump?

possibly. I'd be borrowing a friends oil pressure guage. Try to get a mechanical one if you can, that way you're bypassing any faulty sensors.

There is a how-to on upping your oil pressure here on OH if that is the case.

PFC flashes the check engine light for knock.

Thus mine is disabled.... BS readings of 120+ knock

oil light only comes on for low oil pressure. Check the pressure, sound like it might be your oil pump.

if you dont have a real big dent in your sump, have your oil pressure tested.

also if you look in the oil filler cap does it look like a vegimite factory

you really need to do a oil pressure test at a few different RPMs and record the result

JESUS ^^^ WTF happened there?? Oil coking??

JESUS ^^^ WTF happened there?? Oil coking??

Neglecting to change the oil is more commonly the cause.

thats right

this is what will happen to your motor if you skimp on servicing

FEO being mineral will break down with heat and pressure. So after 7000km, it starts changing from oil to a gummy substance. Usually it is still alright because there is a large volume of oil compared to the amount that is exposed to the high heat. But eventually it turns into sludge.

Look at most BMWs, they look like that. Why? Because BMW in USA has a 24 month service interval! Even with synthetic oils, it still gums!

mmm.......vegemite......

How does pfc utilise the CEL?

Does it still spit out the same fault codes as the stock ecu or does it have its own set of codes?

Confused by the flashing???

Have you done a ECU check?

As mention above, do a oil pressure check at differnt RPM and check in the manual to see if it falls within specs.

As others have said, it's a powerFC function. Flashes when it thinks knocking is past a certain setting.

Ahhh,i see
Sorry SPEEDCORE missed your post, like everyone else seemed to.

Does pfc still issue fault codes thru CEL?

Have no idea to be honest... haven't tried pulling codes on a PFC equiped car.

I'll try it out and post here over the weekend if no one else has posted the answer by then.

yeah its normal for the pfc to flash the engine light for knock monitoring, most people would disable it for hondaz anyway

paul i got the same problem but giving it on a straight sometimes it does it its normal for PFC
