View Full Version : Turboing a B18C2
Gday kids,
Looking at different possibilities for how i can achieve my power goal.
Im aiming at 200-250hp at the wheels.
So i askk you gurus, what parts do you reccomend? I will be using a hondata s300. And im thinking about using a td04 (standard wrx turbo) since I have access them cheap.
And could you guys please post up some pics of boosted dc2 engine bays? Would like to have an idea how the piping has been routed etc.

Lol ;)
Search for the information mate, it has been covered numerous times.
The standard TD04 off a wrx is too small, look for something bigger, heck its too small for the wrx.
For a manifold you could get away with a simple log manifold, such as the AVO B series manifild or a spoolin' performance type, there are many around. Or you could spend a bit more money and get a ram horn design etc.
550cc injectors minimum, you can fit a 600x300 intercooler in the front of the DC2s, I even managed to fit one in front of my old civic :) Piping is very painless on the hondas, so dont worry too much about that.

btw, people here are happy to help you, they just like to see that youve put some effort in yourself
so why not try and figure out a setup to start with, post it up and get feedback
that way, not only will you learn about what youre proposing to do, but you'll find that people are more willing to offer help

the big question is how much you wanna spend...
i had a b18c5 in an eg breeze and did 240bhp at the wheels...NA
costed me an arm and a leg...could have boosted her and got twice the power for that much..but i was keen on NA...so what do you wanna do and how much you willing to spend...????
well i was looking at different conversions that i could do to get me up to that figure. but each NA setup had their cons.
b20 build up: arm and a leg to build up in order to get 200-250hp atw.
k20 swap: no power steering, no abs (my local transport authority and insurance company would love that) and no aircon.
turbo seemed the better idea as people were getting decent power with not that much money spent. and it seems the threshold of these motors is quite high.

then turbo it...its more of bang for buck than NA...and the b18c is a good block to handle turbo..unless you wanna go all out and get forged internals..the stock can handle quite a bit though..

H23A running a t3/04, autronic ecu, all the other turbo stuff - over 200whp at 8psi. Not sure about the b18c should give more through hicam i suppose
h23a would have way better spoolup though. i think the t3/04 is a bit big for my application.

get a complete kit and then start building up further for more hp gains...

if you want HP lag is your friend.
Plus you dont wanna be running around on boost 24/7
i want a responsive setup, so im aiming for full boost around 3500rpm.

H23 with a t3/t4 at 8 psi only made 200whp? Obviously can't say without knowing the whole set up, but that sounds WAY lower than I would expect.

it made over 200.. on 95 octane. And its common fact the US whp figures are approx 10-20% higher than a comparative AUS dyno

200 whp = 145kw ... you reall need to make 170kw+ to make it worth your while cashwise.

For a vtec engine 170kw should be achievable.. if you have a standard block i wouldnt advise trying to run that sort of power all the time. I left mine at 150kw for safety as you cant trust petrol companies here to be consistent with any sort of quality fuel.. it's just not worth the risk of BOOM for 10-20kw

my goes in, in 5weeks T3/4 tuned with a powerFC.
Hoping to get over 200whp safely...

full boost by 3500rpm? you definitly want a GT2871r....i had one on my b18 and it had 8psi at around that point.....and it is big enough to make decent power.

ive got a B18c2 w/ a Gt35R .63 ar rear housing....its tuned and running but i am yet to do walbro or injectors only fuel reg...dont laugh at me:)...its leaning out at about 8000rpm so rpm limit is set a 7800rpm so i cant do any damage...lol...but even with a crap fuel system which will be upgraded in no time no doubt its pulling 225hp at 7500rpm.
I hit full boost at about 4500rpm....with bugger all timing<<<<down side to turboed high compression motor:)

if you think you can't do any damage to the motor with that set up, you're horribly misinformed. Poor a/f tuning + no ignition tuning = recipe for disaster.

That is a recipe for disaster! I maxed my stock fuel pump and had 100% injector duty at 5000rpm on 4psi!! You might want to get the fuel system sorted ASAP!

7psi.... Car on the dyno is fine she runs rich and there is bugger all timing in her...its tuned safe. Initially we were running 10psi and she was running too lean for my liking at about 6000rpm.
