Maybe we'll be getting this sedan type-r instead of the hatch type-r

I'd take the UK model, but this 4 door might sway small families to join the R. But... imagine coming up to an R on the street and you look in their car and see a family of 4. It's like me in the Euro looking into another one and seeing a 60+ year old dude/dudette driving it....

As much as I like the idea of 2 door hatch being the essence of a CTR.... that 4 door grew on me in like 5 seconds. :)

I see this as more of a goer for the Honda AU execs to agree upon... ie. I can see where they could fit this into the Australian market alot easier than the 2 door varient. That being said.. would like to see both sold in AU... simply to keep everyone happy and variety is a good thing. :)

It works in white. But how will the business case go though? Built in Thailand, ship to Japan to put in a k20z and then back to Australia?

Or fully built in Japan? Someone in Japan needs to check their VIN to see the country of manufacture of their regular Civics.

Much easier to sell the wife on a 4 door hahaha, i LOVE this, please please Mr Honda AU please bring this out! I dont want Honda AU to be thought of as a pretend sporty maker, I hate to think of the day people say Civic like they do Camry...

SlobberGoat

no chance. Honda AU executives are all limp-wristed (and have been for quite some time)

The only thing that might coerce them is if the current batch of hot-hatches (being sold by other manufacturers) sell well.... and then they'd do it more to prop up their own bonuses rather than OFFERING a decent car to the paying public.....

Maybe it would be more viable for Honda to bring the sedan version out to Australia-it may actually be cheaper for us than the British built hatch CTR.The only thing is that excuses from Honda would include,Our fuel is not good enough, too expensive to meet Australian requirements, etc.
The sedan is also more powerful than the European CTR apparently over 162KWs,now that would be nice indeed.!

It's 162kW because it has the JDM k20a. I'm sure if it comes to australia, they'll put in a 147kW version instead so as not to undercut sales of the Type S (which is a stupid reason because Type S production should be ending).

they should just bring back the EK and sell it standard with a k20a... at least that would actually out perform the competition hot hatches.

these new type R civics are hideous

unfortunately I can see more possibility of THIS car making it to AUS than the Euro Type R.. unfortunate only because i'd prefer a 3-door or Coupe - 220PS K20 would go down nicely though :P but when u consider the financial reasoning, is definately a possibility to produce this car and sell for ~40K compared to the Euro R version to sell in AUS you wouldnt get much change out of 50k..

DAMN HONDA NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO "" SELLL "" A CAR NOT JUST MAKE IT!

We have to get one of these mdoels now as there are too many damn models in production/plannign to waste all that R&D by not opening up your market.

I.e.

Civic Si Coupe
Civic hybrid
Civic Sport
Civic Vti
Civic Type S
Civic Type R
Civic Type R 4 Door

Is it just me or is that a damn lot of civic varients. They should Make a good one already and bring it here!

kyle
05-10-2006, 08:01 PM
Hahaha That would be classic if it came to Australia. Then you would see all the ricers who bought K20 Civic Sports try and make there car look like one. And wouldn't you be cut if you spent all that money on a Sport and the Type R comes out.

I dont understand why Honda dont wants to join the Hot Hatch War at the moment?

The War brings so much attention to Madza3 MPS, VW Golf GTi and the like...

Sad to see Honda Aust. dont really understand their advertising act..."If Honda dont race, it is not Honda."

Come on! Bring that spirit into the general market!!!

AGREE with kyle...civic sport juz came out and if the type r is cmin too y spend all that money on sport and accesories...might as well buy type r four door...i think the 4 door looks better than the hatch!!

xenfacta
09-10-2006, 09:47 PM
might be a similar scenario to the dc5s. civic sports is cheaper, with leather sunroof etc (integra luxury). civic type r loses the leather sunroof etc but gains performance goodies (ITR). no reason why they wouldnt be able to coexist. a softer k20 for those who arent fussed with speed and/or prefer auto (not many ppl here i imagine) and the hottie for those who want more speed.

that's a nice car, i liked the Dc5R but i think that one certainly looks nicer and 4 door is great! no more messing around with people in the back. ALso good for going shopping and putting bags in the back seat. I'd trade my ek4 for one.

LMFAO !!

Johhny you cant confirm this as there has been NO official release from Honda Australia nor Honda Worldwide.

Japan doesnt get the Type R (sedan) till March 07 so how/why would honda give us with our tiny market the European-built 3-Door for ~50k ?? they arent.. so please stop misleading the public untill you have an official press release in your hands !!

Maybe more false hope, but I have always thought that the sedan, would have to be cheaper to import into Australia ,than the British built Euro hatch Type R.

i just look at this web site and there is no car with over 200hp sold below b15m? that is about 53000 in our money, that is bad... andway 220hp is quite good for that car thats about 160 kw??

jeepers.........that article kept on talking about the demand for the civic over here.

but theres no way they'd be able to sell it at $53K.......anything under $45K is more realistic.

if $32K was for the sports........would it be reasonable to expect ppl to pay an extra $13K for the top model.......i guess not.

This is the best chance yet, that we've had in getting a 'watered down' civicR in aust.

I hope we do..........like yesterday already. :D

this is the Type-R for north america... it's basically a USDM FG sedan with K20Z3 (197hp) + 6spd manual, aero kit made by Mugen (full Honda factory warranty). photos are from SEMA 06:

cars cost a lot more in SE asia than they do here.
they wouldn't sell any at 53k and i doubt they'll try.

36ish should see some sales through.
don't forget the sports compact market is already pretty busy in the 40k bracket here. at 40-45, people start looking at wrx's.
at 35-40, people look towards euro hatches.

We are getting the Civic Type R hatch ( 3 door )
Should be something out in January about it, its supposed to be here in June 07. On road for under 50 000. To compete against the other hatches hitting the market.

Information was from honda

Have been after another civic since i sold my 98 vti-r

The civic is tipped to replace the type R integra in australia.
That said, the type R integra is around 46000 plus onroads, so your looking at the same sort of money.

this is the three door uk version? so australia will be the first country to get it since its out in uk in march

i will definetly get this one since im a p plate driver most of other hot hatch out there are turbocharged. Im abit dissapointed, i prefer the new engine on the japanese concept civic tpe r but the uk version definetely looks alot better

Damn I hope they release that thing in Australia, it looks awesome, they could do more with the current models that are over here I reckon, I mean if they release a Sports or Type R version of the Civic it will grab another segment of the market!

I have always thaught that the should release a sports version of the Euro too, one with the Bodykit and extras on it, sports seats maybe, different displays in the dash etc!

That looks great. You would get a fun ride along with a practical 4 door car. But I dont think they can sell it for more than what the Mazda3 MPS is going for since its essentially still a Civic. Nobody would buy it for 50k
