Hey ya,
Lately my car has a the problem where i will be on the brakes (not hard) and the pedal just goes soft and keeps going to the floor?
I noticed the brake fluid was down so I had the brake fluid changed and all brake pads and the rotors machined. I thought that this might fix the problem but it seems to have gotton worse.
Now it will just sink to the floor but not all the time, some times it feels fine??
The car feels almost dangerous to drive...
Now I do have some mechanical knowledge and i suspect it too be the master cylinder.. am i right??
Cheers guys

yep
just get your brake master cylinder reconditioned, should be all good after that

brake master cylinder is leaking
you best to rebuild it asap before it damages the master cylinder too much beyond rebuilding.
u have air bubbles in brake line?? flush ur brake fluid properly
got same problem, master cylinder problem. rebuilt kit can be brought from dealership for around 60 bux i believe. and they is a good DIY by ECU-MAN.

If it is leaking shouldent i be able to see brake fluid leaking down the firewall?
What do you guys recommend? a new master cylinder or reco this one??
Anyone know how much a new one will be??
funny I went throught this with my 180sx but ended up replacing the thing twice in 12 months.

getting a brake fluid replacement made the softness feel go worse. Replacing or getting it reconditioned is a good idea.

no i have the same problem and my firewall is dry. its internal leak buddy.
just get a rebuild kit and redo it urself. easy hour job. gave you the link already.
or you could buy a new kit but im not loaded and diy is fun :P

its leaking internally where you cant seem ( bypassing brake fluid )
rebuild is the way to go.

there are primary and secondary seals, it may leak within, which is not noticable.

You may just have air bubbles in you break lines as someone else states, this happened with my old car after i boiled my fluid and then replaced it, but did it wrong, so i had to bleed it again =]

you most probably have existing air inside your brake system, possibly causing a problem with your master cylinder.
you should first try to bleed the brakes thoroughly and see if this aids the problem. If not, recondition the master cylinder like everyone has said :)
cheers

Apparently I've got a MBC issue too, but the brakes specialist told me that he wouldn't recommend getting the rebuild kit, and that I should buy a new Cylinder for $190 instead, since apparently half the time people end up having to come back to get it done again.
Any of you guys had to do the rebuild twice? And any way of knowing if it's gone past the point of rebuilding? Might be of concern to other people looking at repairing/replacing.
i jsut hope the guy isn't jacking me, but my pedal is spongy and the fluid has something weird and milky running through it.

i got quoted two piston with the seal for 130 already...lol
think ill bleed my line 1st to see how it goes. i think it happens mostly during hot days after a hard drive and going downhill breaking.

hms... are you sure dude? lol.
i'm pretty sure it's cheaper than that.
even the kits for the dc2 vtir are about 70-80
thought your car, you don't buy a kit, you buyt the pistons and seals sep, but i'm quite sure it's not that exxy.

Sounds like water/air. Bleed all 4 calipers with new fluid and see if it improves.

i'm pretty sure it's only like $20-30 per piston.
and a couple bucks for the seal.

I spoke to my guy again, he said it was because it was "only doing half the job", and something about it bypassing valves or going from piston to piston or something, that the fluid was just moving from one half to another.
Either way, he's quoted me RDA slotted + EBC greens all round, installed with a new MC (not reco) for $1100.
Let me know the result of your brake bleed if you can, EK4R.

How did you go with yours?
They changed my rotors, pads, and master cylinder, but it still feels squishy. Exactly the same, actually.
The guy reckons it's because the new brakes need to 'wear in', then get re-bled.
But I made him put in writing that if I'm not satisfied he has to reinstall my old MC and refund the $200.
Is there anything else that could cause this issue if the MC and fluid are already perfect?
i.e. booster issues, holes in lines etc.
