i had my timing and balancing belts changed about 5 weeks ago and they still kinda make a wining noise, especially noticable when i drive though muli level carparks, its kinda annoying... shoud they have worn in by now ? is this normal ? i drive a 95vti, and the belts were changes FIRST TIME on 158000km
cheers

if the whining noise has been constant it could be that the tensions on the belts are not right..best trick is to leave the car at idle and squirt a little bit of oil on the belt as the engine is running..if this does not stop the belt noise than take it back to the mech

I wouldnt spray a timming belt with oil

but yes the belts have been set to tight. it will take about 5000 plus kms for the noise to go away as the belts strech.

it makes not difference that the belts where changes for the 1st time @158000km, your pretty luck I recon.

anyway you should have the belts retentioned to correct the problem.

dont try to retention your timming and balance belt your self unless you have done it before or are 200% confident you know what you are doing.
