not very tight

someting like 12 to 15Nm

gaskets are about $40, each spark plug seal is about $20

honda bond from honda is about$120, just use PyrteK Ultra Grey Sensor Safe only $9 and does the same Job

careful with honda bond though.
that shit sticks like no tomorrow.
in our work shop, we used to use honda bond to seal the bottom of saab sumps.. it was sooo good, it didn't want to come off and half the time bent focked the sump.
lol.

DO NOT TRY TO TIGHTEN THE VALVE COVER BOLT WHILE THE HEAD IS HOT. The studs are hot, thus expanded, when it cools they can snap, also if you tighten then hot they are not as strong and can snap as you put the torque on them. The domed nuts, the nice pretty ones, in the middle for the spark plug cover get hand tightened only. All the others get 9.8nM/7.2Ft LBS at most.

match sure u use the tony little wrenches..
i used a bigger one and snapped one bolt..

it was a bitch to buy cause Peter Warren kept on ordering the wrong parts.. ordered it 3 times and it was still wrong.. even came out and got my chasis number but somehow ordered a D series one..

After snapping 3 valve cover bolts, crapping my daks, and ordering up the last lot of bolts in Australia at the time I can definitely vouch for not doing them up tight at all. As a guide, I just got the socket and an extension and did them up with that without trying to go super dk tight. No wrench used.

destrukshn, that's why I try to kick the coins first to make sure that I'm not going to make a dick of myself! ;)

I would just grab the hammer and a screw driver and take them up. Then the person is out the coin and the glue and I got 2 bucks for some food. Although here we do $5 bills and a fishing line!!

If you even bothered to look a the links i posted it is 13US.. so i estimated 30AUD delivered..

basically i have had problems with my sump sealing.. hondabond is spose to be some hardcore stuff.. if it only costs me 30 bucks and solves my problem then i will be a happy man

destrukshn
09-10-2006, 03:14 PM
why doesn't it seal?
tried buying a new gasket?

Dxs
09-10-2006, 03:16 PM
lets say..
probably 3 honda gaskets, 2 different sealants.. and 2 times back at a mech who ended up using some aircraft sealant.. and the thing still leaks.. only minor but still a leak..

now i have a new gasket and a replacement sump.. so i am gonna get some hondabond too

destrukshn
09-10-2006, 03:31 PM
dude..
that shit is nasty.. just a warning.
you'll have a fockin hard time and probably bend something trying to take it off.

Dxs
09-10-2006, 03:38 PM
i have done it a few times..
i am sure i will be fine :/

destrukshn
09-10-2006, 03:39 PM
your sump is probably focked, that's why it's leaking.
my advice, since you have a replacement sump, put that sump on, without honda bond, see if it leaks first, if it does, then your call if you wanna put honda bond or not.
lol

lol telln me no wonder why i got the Reds, like i care about having the reds or Greens?
buddy go get urself some silicon sealer from Repco , its a Blue sealant, pretti good i used it wen i resealed my rocker cover, all good no Oil leaks :)
costed me about $20 forget the name, but on the silicon should see a picture for what you can seal it on etc valve cover...hope that helps.

man i stil gota get that broken screw outa one of my threads in the rocker cover, for the time its okay, because its been broken for about 2 years id say as i pulled it str8 off, and only realised it was broken when i took the rocker cover off

Dxs: Is your sump dented ? Im having similar problems with my sump. Change gasket and added sealent and still leaking. Im going to change sump and see if it stop, which it should cause my one is damaged.

Dxs
09-10-2006, 05:24 PM
there is a minor dent in it.. i am replacing with another 2nd hand one

but i would have thought the gasket should make up for any slight inperfections

i am now using no gasket and like a plasticine gasket
so it should seal no matter what
but it is still ****ed

as stated i am gonna use new gasket replacement sump and hondabond

here is a thread about my probs
