Hey guys, im planning to boost my D16Y1 its a sohc vtec motor, and im planning to leave the motor stock, and run low boost, right now im thinking about using a T28 turbo that came off a R32 GTR, just wondering has anyone boosted a sohc motor using a that turbo and how does it go? i would like a quick spooling turbo that i can run around 6psi for fun, is there any other turbo's i should consider
for the plans i have? how about a T3 turbo that came off the R33 skylines?

Cheers

A t28 is a very good option for a budget stock internalled setup. If you have more money, you may want to consider something like a gt28rs that'll work great for now, but leave good room to upgrade down the road.

yeah ive heard that the gt series turbo's are nice, but its just abit out of my budget build.

Does anyone know if the T28 turbo that came out of a GTR R32 was a ball bearing turbo or not?? because im interested in this turbo and the seller says its a ball bearing turbo but my *nissan friends* are telling me that the skyline T28 never came as a BB only the S15 turbo did.

also they are a ceramic real wheel.... Dont Touch them!! if you are looking at the make sure if you find it they have a Ceramic Or Steel Rear Wheel. You want Steel... Not Ceramic!

oh really? damn.. no wonder i thought i was getting a bargain on this T28 and thought it was too good.. so the seller was just falsely advertising his turbo and saying its a bb turbo.

then would that mean that the t3 turbo that comes from the r33 skyline would be the same specs as this t28 where its ceramic style turbo?

thanks for your reply guys

.. no they'd be different specifications, but you still are better off with an S15 one.

Your all confusing yourselves.

GTR 32 T28 is non bb. And Ceramic im sure. But ur only running 6psi so it doesnt matter if it has a ceramic exhaust wheel.

The GTR 28's are smaller than the s14/15 T28's. the A/R are different. Theyre both DIFFERENT turbos. Its like saying a t4 is a t4.. or a t3 is a t3..

Dont simply "get" an s15 T28. Only the japanese s15's came with the BB T28 turbo.

The T3 from R33 GTST's are BB, but have ceramic wheels. they are a very weak turbo. Ive had mates that have had them fail very easily.

Why are you after such largish turbos for your 1.6 if u only plan on running 6psi?

Go for an IHI td04 from a WRX or t25G from an s13 silvia if your only planning to run 6psi and want quicker usuable spool. And for $300 2nd hand vs $600 for a t28.. hey up to u.

the ihi td04 from the wrx is pathetically small...

even a t25 is a VERY small turbo for a d16, even at 6 psi

both will die off at high rpm

something like a t28 or a t3 is a very good choice for a stock internalled d series motor, especially with room a little room to grow

remember, with the higher compression, more efficient honda motors, turbo choice tends to be a bit larger than other motors of similar displacement. What may work great for a stock turbo 2.4l motor is more applicable to a smaller displacement honda motor.

yeh i agree the tdo4 is very small! its even too small for a wrx it wouldnt be worth using that!
