I recently found a private seller selling his honda accord 94 vti-s for $9000. The owner (a chick) claims it is in excellent condition. Of course I havent checked it 1st hand yet but its done 214000 km. Does anyone think this is a good deal? Because from what I've heard, engine rebuilding can make it run like new again? and that'll cost about 2000. which makes it 11000 all up for a vti-s... hrmmm..should i check it out?

IMHO if you decide to rebuild the engine, just do an engine swap to a H22A. It will cost more but it will be much better than rebuilding the current engine.

Else I don't know much abot Accords...hehehe

haha.. yeah!
i just asked about that in another topic..
wouldnt buyin an engine+installation be a fair bit more than just an engine rebuild..

does an engine rebuild actually make it run like new??.. i was jes wondering..

sorry if i sound like a newbie.. but i gotta consider all the facts b4 i can buy the accord!!..which i really want..

it shouldnt need a rebuild at only 214,000km anyway, but yeh i think its a good deal if the car is in good nick :)

really depends...
if u do it urself, lookin at approx $3k for engine? think thats wat cam paid for a half cut. then u gotta factor in shit that goes wrong.
do it at a decent workshop looking at $6k-7k+...

Usual Suspect

9000 is a bargin price for that car, which is my fav aswell. Remember the diff in a h22a and the accord engine, h22a is probably better in a straight line than the f22b is it (i forget), but i would prefer to keep my accord with its original engine (if i had one)

fark dude thats an awesome price. when i was lookin around for my car i couldnt get one below 12k and that was for an EXi. only reason i didnt get one was cause i couldnt get one in a manual that was within my budget

the H22A shits all over the F22B in all aspects. much better engine. once u experience it u'll realise :D
F22B was never made to be a "performance" engine.

except the F22B is better for boost, thats the only aspect where you can say it has an advantage over the H22A :D

6-7k!!..wow thats quite abit..
i jes hope the car isnt so cheap becoz its been in an accident before..
despite the owner claiming it to be in "excellent condition"

there shouldnt be a need to rebuild the engine at that mileage, although the engine may be a little noisy ( rattley bottom end ) which would be normal,
Just getting the Head reconditioned is what will make it idle and rev alot smoother.

thats a great price for the Vti-s, 200k is nuthn on a honda engine, mine was still good, but i totally rooted the diff or the gearbox doin a burnout ( its not good for only one wheel to spin for so long :P All i know is i heard a god awful noise and then the gearbox oil came out of a hole in the diff housing :? by the time i organised the front cut and got off my ass to do the swap, it took about a month from taking out my old engine to havn the h22a going. Only really worked on it on the weekends.

Ummm... Hate to burst your bubble, but is/was that car in Orange? And was it advertised in Carsales.com.au? Black 94 VTi-S if i'm not mistaken

If so, then i am driving the car right now :) Paid $8500 for it, and it had 214k kms on it (now 216k).

If not then that is an amazing coincidence...

I'm actually a bit worried the seller is trying something dodgy here!

He posted yesterday saying he spoke to the owner, yet i bought the car on thursday night. I transferred rego on saturday... For some reason i doubt that guy (or his gf) has done the notice of disposal

I'm gonna keep an extra close eye on that car now, wont let it out of my sight!

Pimpin... That was my next option (and that was my budget too!). I was actually just after a VTi (for around 8k), but when this VTiS came up for 9k i thought 'what the hell!' Climate, leather, sunroof and cruise are worth the extra grand for me. The money i bargained him for paid for a timing belt and oil seal change, should be right for another 200,000 hopefully!
