D2s is the oem bulb

Keep in mind that switching to a higher K bulb will result in a significant loss of light output, and be much less reliable.

:)

i've got aftermarket 8000k...

looks hot indeed...but like saxman said, light output is not as great as the stock 4300K...

i'd go for 6000K if u're thinking of changing them..i know i'd change my 8000 to 6000 if i had the chance...

8000k = less light output than a normal halogen bulb

afaik 8000k puts out a tad over 2000lumens.

a 50w bulb does not quite hit that at about 1700-1800lumens...

but considering the fact that he's changing form 4300k (the best output) to 8000k... i am sure he'll feel the difference...

I've seen a few different listings for how much lumens each will put out... honestly, I wonder if there is actually a real listing. None of the quality bulb manufactures make 8000k bulbs, so the quality of them varies a lot. There also is a large variety in the color output of the bulbs as the cheap companies generally don't even test the color output of their bulbs(an 8000k bulb is not necessarily actually 8000k), so there's no reason to believe they actually do any proper testing of the lumen output.

Also, the CRI of the bulbs is significantly lower than a halogen bulb, so even if the lumen output is identical, the halogen bulbs will still be WAY better for night vision.

Point is, if you want to see where you're going at night, stay away from the 8000k bulbs.

if 8000K hid bulbs produce less light output than stock halogens, then why are my 8000K hids brighter on the road than my stock halogens?

they aren't... the way the blue light causes your eyes to react makes you think so, but you're actually seeing less.

oh okay guys...so its D2s.i considering 8000k or 10000k. 10000k will look so much like pink or purple color...but not sure yet...

why do u want it to be 8000k? or 10000k for that matter?

i think he's mainly go for just the appearance...
but dedy, the process of changing the HID bulbs is a pain in the A$$...
so its wither u have all the tools handy or u have to take back to dealers or some other places to get it down...
my suggestion,,, still keep the OEM ones handy so if u change ur minds in the future, u know u are set back with them...

Fun to go into photoshop with that picture, and slowly decrease the lightness, and watch as the bulbs disappear as they approach 4100k

this one does an even better job of showing how much the light output drops with increase in kelvin

If anyone has swapped the Lux oem HID lights, do you know what brand the standard bulbs are? I haven't taken a look at mine since there's no need to. I was just wondering if I should swap them for another brand, and see if there are any differences in output - even if same colour temp.

the oem ones are either osram or phillips. You'll get a slightly different color with the osram than the phillips as they color shift, but light output wise, they act the same. You're not going to get more light out of one or the other. (although depending on how much use your bulbs have seen, you may get more light just from putting some new bulbs in. They do get dimmer with use)
