Just thought ill create a thread for the F2#@CK of it as there is alot of misinformed ozhonda people regarding engine and engine swap legality..

I could be wrong.. but all this has applied and worked for me so far...
All this could be BS... do your research

Myth or FACT

You cannot have engine which is older than Vehicle
It seems that you can.. as long as it hasnt been registered in AUDM its all good...
And if it has... you can get it registered.. However you need an engineer report with emission test to say that it passes all the emissions criterials of the year of the chasis.. (I called up RTA:thumbsup: )

Do I need an emission test on imported motor
I didnt have a problem, and so didnt a few other forumers who i asked.

Capacity increase requiring engineer cert
not needed if its under 15%.
Please note upgrading engine from b16a to b18b frankstein is over 15%
thats almost got me... research is your best friend

Stay safe drive slow ;)

Never had a problem with my swaps.

PLus, RTa call center gives mis-leading info. Its better to go into a RTA office and ask in person.

so say if i was going to swap my d16a8 to a b18c i wouldnt have to get it engineered cause 15 % of 1600 is 240 so going to 1800 would be under 15%

For the ENGINE , no - since its under the +15% increase rule.

But , you will need other parts engineered such as front brakes to take an increase in power.

yesh.. provided that its either imported.. or you do an emissions test (engineer cert)

emissions test/engineer cert is quiet stringent at times.. I have heard people who could not pass and having to drive around with mismatched engine/chasis numbers... but then again its wasnt a honda..!

Best bet.. late model engine.. no hassles and only $15 or somthing

Keep in mind that turbocharging any motor means it is classified as a 20% 'capacity' increase over the actual engine capacity. ie. 2L turbo motor becomes a 2.4L n/a motor in eyes of RTA.

and also rotaties are an exception too.. a 1.3 litre 13b peripheral port rotary cannot be put into a honda city.

rotories are regarded as "double" capactiy too , in some eyes of the RTA. Ive been told - its not 100% confirmed tho.

Rotaries are subjected to a 50% increase in capacity.
12A = 1.8L, 13B = 2L, 20B = 3L
12A turbo = 2.16L, 13B turbo = 2.4L and 20B turbo = 3.6L
Minimum wieght for a 12A turbo is 720Kg, 13B turbo 800Kg and 1100Kg for 20B turbo
