hey guys ive been told that removing the exhaust resonator is a proven gain on the car (it should be i know) but how much is the gain?
and the note on the exhaust... will it actually sound more like a vtec?

Interesting idea.

I'm curious to know the exhaust note too, although I doubt I'll ever try this out :D

U wont gain any power, u'll get a different exhaust note thats about it. ROLLED has done this, im sure he'll chime in. If U want power from an S2000 get ure wallet out.

Have a read of these.

yeah i've done it, it's definately alot louder from outside the car than before. Haven't noticed any power gains at all...

it gives the car a more distinct sound, I have noticed that at the start the sound wasn't that loud, then it became more high pitched and now (not sure why) it's become a bit deeper...sounds alright, it only cost me $40 to get mine taken out so no complaints there.

i know u say its louder from the outside of the car. but from the drivers seat do u get more sound too?

this is realyl funny, people who haven't had this mod done, in fact don't even have s2000s are replying to this topic.

love ozhonda.

to answer your question it is louder with the roof down, i've had this done for a while now so im used to it but when u drive on the freeway or normally its not that much louder then stock its only when you go WOT...

and lastly it doesn't make the exhaust loud enough to make droning and issue.

Get your car first then spend the $40 or so to get more sound out of it if you wish, the stock setup is far too quiet and most of the sound is the engine which isn't all that glorious.

Isnt that the case for most threads here. Maybe we should just walk into the civic forum and start giving bad advice on things we have no clue about.

im pretty sure it will increase power.
because its an restriction to the exhaust.
if u remove it. it will have better air flow.
better air flow = more power.

Im pretty sure.... your wrong. You obviously don't understand the workings of an F20C engine....

Any S2000 owner can tell you 95% of aftermarket exhausts for a S2000 cause a reduction in power.

Your average "theory: does not apply to the workings of this car.

what are you trying to get at here?

what are you trying to get at here?

the car needs some back pressure. having a 4" straight thru givse no back pressure, and car will lose power. thats what he is trying to say.

yeah i've done it too, mine doesnt' sound as nice as rolled's. I think its a bit of a gamble, and depends on workmanship. i'm not really sure though.
i've got a very tinny sound at 5-6k rpm (right before vtec).

when the car is cold, exhaust note is very high and tinny, after a trashing, deeper...

can anyone get a picture and show me exactly which one to remove?

ROLLED
24-10-2006, 11:06 AM
there's only one resonator...the exhaust bends up into a muffler looking thing and comes back down and splits into 2 pipes, cut out that muffler looking thing!...it's pretty cheap to get done, so go for it!

the sound could be affected by the sizing of the piping (ie. u could of went a smaller/bigger piping) or the material of metal that was used can also change tone.

but tinny-ness is suppose to be there because u've removed the resonator, and the job of a resonator is to make it deeper (quieter, drowns out the tinny-ness)

yeah i guess thats right

nah sounds standard, its only noticable to yourself because you drive it, but for anyone else it sounds stock.

imo, its not worth ruining your standard exhaust for such a little increase in noise that doesnt really do anything. save your $40 and buy a slab of beer or something, you'd have more enjoyment drinking it.

hey bro ,
are you just purely after sound ? or power gains ?

If its just sound , i got a mate who's got a HKS cat/back set up for sale.

As for gains , for the price you pay , your not going to get any real increase's . As the stock system is A1. When i was changing my wheels recently , i took a look at how big the stock twin system is !
People think there's more power from all the noise ( same effect to removing air box cover ) .

its argueble .

weight savings is always a bonus , but my question is what was he after performance or sound . But i dont think your gonna get any real gains over stock after dishing out $1200-1500 , and in some cases $2500 .

yulp, bang for buck wise? it aint worth it.

even with the apexi n1, i hardly feel that theres any extra power.. maybe just in vtec it revs out a little faster, besides that. totally not worth the money if your spending anything near 1k.

I beleive he wants about $500 or so for it . (as he indicated )

Will let you boys know .
