i was reading a thread on this site about someones speedo not working well mine the other day died i took it to honda they said that it was the electronic sensor that sits on top of the drive going in to gearbox was faulty. Just wanted to know if anyone can sell me one or a place where i can get one the car is an 89 ed3 civic with a b16a vtec from a 89 crx and i live in queensland

The thing you're after is the VSS. (Vehicle Speed Sensor)

You should be able to get it off any B16 engine.

Not sure man, you should be able to find it on any B16 engine so if someone is parting out they may be able to sell it to you.

Also, have you spoken to honda? They should be abel to get one for you as it could be the same as the one on the ITR's that had the b18.

2nd hand ones will cost about $50 and 10 minutes of labour for yourself. get them off any honda that ran an electric vss. the most probable cause to it failing is the pin inside the unit has broken.

Depending on which g/box u used,its most likely by the sounds of your swap that u have a cable driven speedo & the speed pulser is actually located on the back of the guage cluster not on the gearbox.

Pull the cluster out & see if its driven mechanically or electrically.

mine buggered up not long ago aswell. it must have short circuit cause it had melted into the housing. cost me $65 but had to be imported from japan

thanks for all your help i fixed the problem it was not the vss it was the pin missing between the vss and the speedo drive did'nt cost me anything
