No it doesn't say it is illegal. http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/noise/vehiclenoise.htm

Noise from filters and valves

Avoid fitting your vehicle with a pod-type air filter. This filter increases engine induction noise and may also increase exhaust gas pollution. Under clause 20 of the Regulation, it is an offence to modify an engine's air intake when it results in an engine noise level exceeding the maximum level specified in the Regulation.
The limit is 90dB.

Also, NSW Legislation states that all aftermarket exhausts that are louder than stock are illegal: http://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/fragview/inforce/subordleg+537+2000+pt.2-div.2-sdiv.1-sec.18+0+N

(2) A person must not:
(a) remove, or render less effective, a motor vehicle’s noise control equipment, otherwise than for the purpose of repairing or replacing it, or
(b) replace a motor vehicle’s noise control equipment with noise control equipment that is less effective than the original noise control equipment fitted by the vehicle manufacturer.
But cops don't catch you for exhausts that are slightly louder than stock. The get you for exhausts that are too loud. It's a grey area.

Every Modifer should do the same sort of research as Aaron and I do; there would be less fatalities; less accidents; and fewer whinging about the cops and how their 'bs dfects' got them. -_______- ;; most annoyed.

keep your car safe above and beyond the requirements. They are minimums. If you can make it better; make it so. It's your LIVES and the people around you, you endager.

... Why do I do this to every thread?! LOL

But Yes... Again; Aaron is winner ;)

i should have reworded my statement to "can go up to $300".

but still a hassle not worth taking if you ask me. but what are the chances of a civic getting pulled over for a defect? it's always rexies or skylines.

That is alot mate, i've been pulled over just recently, first time in about a year and i got a ticket for my wheels, that's it. They went around my car, looked under the bonett and nothing.

Back to the aribox question, i've got an aluminium one covered in carbon fibre film (mmm rice) and the cops didn't say anything, they probably laughed at it but i couldn't see because the bonett was up and i was in the car :p
