View Full Version : Ongoing exhaust dilemma

Well I received the silencer for the BC3 exhaust and I can not believe how much of a difference it made....it now makes just a bit more noise than stock.

Now that's the good news.

The bad news is that it looks retarded, but more importantly, the car now feels like it is suffocating itself to the point that the stock system performed better than the BC3 with the silencer in.

Now I am not going to drive around with the silencer in because:

1. It looks f*ckuing ghey-as
2. I lose so much power
3. The car is harder to drive because it is always hesitating

SImple answer of course is to just remove the silencer right?

But I can't do that cause it's too loud for the wife (and me to an extent) - the wife is in the car 99% of the time that I'm in it.

The other problem with it is that it sits too low - the flange scraped when I was coming off the hoist after it was fitted, and this is with factory 4WD suspension!

So to me it's all way too much trouble for the few extra kw I gain from the BC3.

Now my options are as follows:

1. Refit the OEM exhaust which didn't do too bad now I think about it.
2. Get a custom cat-back job knocked up.

Now the this is where the technical part comes in to play. I also have a V-AFC II to go in and get tuned once the exhaust fiasco is rectified. For best results with the V-AFC II, should I try and go for a high-flow (and quiet) custom exhaust, or will the OEM system be adequate? Does anyone have first-hand experience of the V-AFC with stock and aftermarket exhausts?

Sorry for the long post, I'm just still a bit disappointed about the BC3 and not sure what to do now.

Don't expect any real gains...
The VAFC & VAFCII are just pretty "bling" blue pieces of shit.

just wondering if you have any pictures of where its scraping? and how retarded it looks with the silencer?

No pics as yet.....

It scrapes just behind the drivers side so once I lower it, I would have no chance of clearing a decent sized speed hump.

As for the silencer, picture a Jazz from behind right...now put a N1 muffler with a 4 inch tip (already looks ricey), then add a silver plate that fills in the entire 4 inch tip except a tiny pee-shooter hole that is only slightly bigger than an inch in diameter.

I am not expecting huge gains from the V-AFC II whether I use the OEM exhaust or a "performance" variant, but I am aware of a few people that have used it on the Jazz with relative success...could be all BS though.

TODA are you at Advan on Saturdays by any chance? I wouldn't mind having a chat to you at some stage.

OK take in to account I already have the V-AFC II...now should I bother with an exhaust or not?

I was looking at the Fujitsubo site, and their Power Getter for the Jazz gains a whopping 4kw at the fly! I am assuming the BC3 may be slightly more than this in top end due to it's larger pipe diameter.

I think I have just realised it ain't worth the effort and $$$ modding the engine unless going all out....Suspension, wheels and tyres is where it's at huh?

They may not be as good (or nearly as good) as a Hondata - but its not right of you talk shit like that.

Talking shit? Excuse me...
Btw, I didn't mention Hondata as a comparison... This is a stand alone programable ECU...
The Apexi unit is only an interceptor... (not even a piggy back...)
It only affects the MAP sensor output...
True it can be made to work by back tuning...
That is, increase the fuel pressure, retard the base timing & then set about pulling fuel out... But it's a bother to get spot-on...
That said it can be done, but IMO they're still shit... :P

Cheers Speedcore!

That is also the most expensive suggestion ever!

Get a fujitsobo exhaust and it'll solve all your problem ;)

any chance of selling the current exhaust/trade for another one?

If I can sell it, then yeah I will....it's just hard trying to find people with a Jazz who also want to modify it.

I will let it go pretty cheap if anyone is interested.

Dude just out of interests sake... what size piping is the BC3 for the Jazz?

Might have someone interested.

With all your respect he wasnt asking your opinion his VAFC so acting like this makes you look like asshole.
To answer your question: for what it is, its worth you go with a custom b-pipe and axle back and then sourcer a quieter muffler like a copy twinloop. Tuning with the VAFC will yield better results than NOT tuning at all.

Thanks everyone

Speedcore - The piping is 60.5mm (2.36") - quite large for a N/A 1.5 I know, but it works surprisingly well with not much loss down low and awesome top-end.

Seems to be getting a bit quieter now - either that or:

1. It's made me deaf already
2. I'm getting used to it after crusing around with stock exhausts for almost 12 months

Ed, just saw your post with the Trust zorst.

Looks pretty good, but do you know, by any chance, if it comes with or if you can get the b-pipe for it as well? I can't seem to find anything on the Trust site.

Mine is a GD3, but all companies seem to make the same thing for both the GD1 and GD3 (it will fit both models)

Justin.
Trust don't seem to make a b-pipe for your car mate.
