I planning to install a Cold Air Intake and Exhaust for my EK4.

Just wana hear your thoughts on what Brand/Type of CAI and Exhaust goes well with stock 96' Civic VTi-R performance wise.

cheers

if i had the b16a motor in a ek i'd invest in the jdm 4-1 itr headers. my friend has it with the heat shields and it looks totally stock! and he told me that most aftermarket headers hang low where as these ones tuck in really well..

as for the cold air intake just run some 80mm flexible piping from ur air box down to the bumper like most of the other guys with ek have...

Injen is a good intake system but really depends on how much you got to play with....

I suppose my budget for both exhaust and intake would be around 1.5k-2k?

injen and aem CAI's are really good, but they will set u back probly around the $400 mark
as for exaust depends what u want, do u wanna stay legal, or u dont care, the buddyclub spec2 is really good on the ek4's however above 3000rpm u'll go deaf

2k is a good amount to spend on these mods..ull prolly have some money left ova anyways

aem n injen are good CAI..as previously stated lookin around 400 for em..then u got headers..u can either do this

Option 1: PM dyno dave..he can make u a set of custom headers suited for ur car(i dont think ive come across a better header)..but thatll cost anywhere between 1k-1.5k i think..so u wouldnt have that much money to finish ur zorst off

Option 2:you can buy the JDM ITR 4-1 headers, which IMO are best bang for buck..although u will be sacrificin bottom end power for my push up top..it wont be a drastic loss..but itll be a mad gain! there around 700$..u can buy the buddly club spec 3 zorst..cause spec 2 is to loud for the streets..thats around 800.

so heres the break down

Option 1:

Intake: aem or injen=400 (if ur lucky and dyno dave is still makin these babies..he has has own CAI which shits on injen and aem, and is also cheaper.. :) )
Header : dyno dave custom made:1k-1.5k

total : anywhere between 1.4k-1.9k

Option 2:

Injen, AEM or Dyno Dave: 300-400
JDM ITR 4-1: 700
buddy club zorst : 800

Total - 1.8k-1.9k

Now u still need to take into fact that u gotta pay labour for puttin the headers on and zorst..which would be around 100-150 id say..ud wanna look at gettin a high flow cat...can get one around the 200 mark..so u might just be ova ur budget a lil :)

cheers fellas, thx for the suggestions.

you guys know any good places around Melbourne to get those parts, I 'm having trouble finding these Injen & AEM Parts and JDM ITR Headers

I'm also interested in finding a Buddy Clubb Pro Spec I/II/III Exhaust for EK4.

anyone know anywhere/anyone around Melbourne?

PS. I've heard J's Racing Air Intake is good also...any advice?

injen costs more around $500

and for any JDM headers you will need a jdm cat aswell and they cost from around $170-$250

If i were to buy a new setup on a low budget, i would go for a EBAY cold air intake. Basically all i would want is their piping ( unless ur fussy, piping is piping and air will in the end still flow right through) and get your self a good apexi or k&n pod. Ebay kits can be as cheap as 70-80 bux.

for 1.5k, you can buy
aem v2 for about 400
FGK RM01A for 1000
with the remaining, get yourself a case of corona's and fill up your tank and go vtec happy all day.
cant go wrong.

If it was me on high budget:
AEM/INJEN intake - $450ish
TODA/BC headers - $1200 - $1500ish
RM01A/PowerGetter - $900 - $1100ish

On cost budget:
Simota/Ebay intake - $150ish
JDM 4-1 headers - $500 - $700ish
Custom 2.5" mandrel catback - $400 - $600

^^ agree with above..

over budget
CAI - injen/aem - 450
HEADERS - toda - 1400
CAT BACK - RM01a - 1100
TOTAL $2850

sourcing these second will bring you under budget and IMO these parts second if still in good condition will not give u any problem nor will it cause any loss in power :thumbs up:

do it right the first time saves more money then you would going cheap route now and upgrading later ;)

Hey,

I am also looking at a filter upgrade for my VTiR and a mate from Singapore has told me about a Simota air filter kit which you can get that comes with an enclosed housing - ie. its not just a pod that sits in the engine bay sucking in all the hot air. It actually comes with housing for the pod and piping to go outside the engine bay to suck in cold air.

So maybe check out www.simota.com

I am from Melbourne as well and I have no idea who will stock these kits and what the costs are - maybe just ring around.

Can anyone suggest ? or anyone has feedback on these kits? im looking into the at the carbon kit

Good Luck!

wat is AEM?

also, does mugen make cai's? rough price they cost if they do? and they worth the money?

AEM is an brand. they also produce other parts aswell. like fuel rails and pulley kits and stuff.
mugen make intakes, but its more like a SRI (+air feeding pipe) rather than CAI. rough price for mugen airbox is like 1k.

with money left over, i'd buy engine mount inserts, perhaps some nice tyres or a sway bar kit if you havent already got em.
