Goodjob with the new pb!

Do they hold grip pretty long around the track? How many consecutive hot laps do you think you can do with them?

dc2vtir
03-11-2012, 10:18 AM
They actually held up really well, when I got them to 38psi hot for both front and rear they held up great.

I did about 5 hot laps before they started to lose a grip. It wasn't a lot that was lost but it was noticeable.

Try some new alignment settings for turn in, I've found that a bit of toe out helps a lot. I run about 1 - 1.5mm toe out each side and it makes a huge difference on turn in. It does mean that you have to get it back it street alignment after the track day because it's really sketchy driving with that setting on the street, especially on highways and also it eats through your tires too.

ekslut
11-11-2012, 08:04 PM
Yeah, already running 1mm toe in the front. It's a non registered car, so no worry about street ability!! Think the issue a lot is that it's still got stock bushes in the front, so considering its an 88 model that only sees hard track use I think it's time to upgrade them.

Went with KW V3. Seems to have a bit more rear shock travel which suits my rear swaybar more. A lot softer, bit too soft actually, but seems to be working. Would like to make them a bit stiffer eventually. How you enjoying the Zeals?

Oh yep sweet man!

They are great. Ive only had the chance to race once with them so far but it was nice. Beat my PB with no wheel alignment or anything haha. So im excited to feel them once my car is setup properly again.

Very interested in what brakes and pads you guys use. I have EG6/EK4 front brakes (mostly interested in fronts) and can't really go up in size, but interested in discs and pads for this size. What do the EG's and DelSol's use that have run at Wakefield Park?

I want to get back there for a second crack later this yr. Have changed suspension, tyres and wheels but brakes are the last thing I want to look at. Hoping to run into the 1:10s with A050s and better stopping!

As it was my first time and on old street tyres on the rear and new ones on the front - and with the car overheating due to air temps over 33 and track temps even higher - I was happy with a 1:14 on stock sussy and new to track. Will need a decent radiator next time.

Will DC2R rotors fit inside 15's? I have heard there are fussy mods when putting these on EGs. What other changeover items are needed on a 4 stud EG?

Would it be just as good to stick some decent DBA rotors (4000 series) and good pads?

If I can learn the track a bit better and hold better apex speeds through T1,T2 I think I can easily bump some time off! I've also become more familiar with the car since doing many hillclimbs and with stickier rubber I think I can approach the limits of the car more now!

Yeah definitely man that's a great time.

They fit inside 15's with no dramas. If you've 3 peiece wheels with a low offset the bolts may touch I had that with my Simmons but with the buddyclubs from Jdmyard they have heaps of room!
The stock dc2 rotors were just re-drilled to 4x100. really glad I used these brakes over an aftermarket set up for triple the price.

Yeah DC2R engine. Very good for hillclimbs as it doesn't overpower it's types like a lot of cars. Have entered about 8 hillclimbs and have won my class in all of them, sometimes over more than a dozen cars. The last two were in Coffs and Kempsey where I cam 6/65 and 2/20 entries. Often the fastest road reg car there. It's funny following home all these cars on trailers after beating them... A great form of motorsport which costs little in entry, tyre wear, brake/clutch wear etc and time/prep! Hold a couple of track & class records... until someone rocks up in a K20 H car one day!!

dc5dave
03-05-2013, 04:24 PM
Good stuff man sounds like your killing it, so I take it your doing the hillclimb nsw championship? I was considering putting a b18 engine to my gearbox but majority are worn out and actually make less kw than my b16 so I'm going to do it right and throw in a dc5r motor with a built box.
Yeah it's a different crowd to circuit racing to I've heard.
Hey doesn't have to be a K or H it could be me in my b16 :P

Dave thtas the beauty of E85, cooler eng Temp. I did 2 consecutive days down at Winton and the temp guage doesnt budge. Benny sure did tune it well ! In a few years Ill be going down your K path but not with this heavy bitch. Yeah I also went to Uni at Bathurst and I remember a twin engined 4wd mini amongst some the entrants doing the climb starting at the top of conrod straight, a blast indeed.
Unreal!! I haven't researched much on e85 but majority of blokes doing serious circuit work are running it. How did you go Winton?
How much boost are you putting through it?
Lol yeah they are a pretty popular thing to do in the U.K, a lot of blokes even do twin 1300 motorbike engines.
How much does the fd weigh??

Stevil
03-05-2013, 06:25 PM
Dave from memory the FD weighs about 1180kg, Winton was good but the 3 consecutive hairpin style corners just destroyed my lap times as traction was non existant on exiting them, Im hoping the Mfactory LSD aleviates this. max boost is 7psi, plan is to do 5 or 6 more track days this year and then turn the boost up to 12psi, 15 psi is about the limit the motor can handle from what Ive read, thats should deliver me around 230kw's atw !! Motors are dirt cheap some Im not too worried about destroying a few ... lol

dc5dave
05-05-2013, 06:10 PM
Wow it's not to bad mine weighs 1150 stock! Yeah I've never been there but I had a look at in on the net and it looks like it's got some pretty hairy corners.
Shit that's good power for 7psi I can't imagine it with 230kw that would be unreal!
Yeah that's the beauty it's cheaper to throw another motor in than build yours. So you drive it around daily hey?

Timed at about 1.51s.

I found a few new lines and changed method around turn 5 after I was timed and believe I would have lost another second. Still a long way from Cameron Mcconville's 1.45 second run in the same car.
I know I need more practice!!!

Took the FD1 to Eastern creek this arvo and managed to knock 7 sec's off my PB on the full Braham Circuit, 2.20.33, not real happy as it had a low 2.18 in it but EVO and STi traffic was heavy. managed to pull 199kmh down the main straight. Bugga !

And on a mostly wet and very cold circuit club day last month at Wakefield, I pulled a 1.12.73 late in the day. looking forward to a Sunny day in Sept to hopefully get into 11s or maybe 10s.

Took the 4dr Shitbanger to Wakefield on Saturday, very crowded day with 66 cars all up, track conditions were perfect and the Civic didnt disappoint. Renault Nationals were on with around 30 x 265/250 Meganes and a few Clio Sports. New PB of 1.11.06 was set before lunch before I flipped over to my road rubber for some fun in the Arvo. Had a few niggles with the clutch late in the day and a bent strut made braking into T2 a little awkward. 1.10 is only a bee's dick away so I may head out again this year but Temps are starting warm up.

how was your transition from ad08r to the z214s?

The grip difference is pretty big, I need to get used to braking later and using fourth gear in some of turns I would normally use third.

I was braking where I normally would with the AD08s it was definitely too early, ended up throttling through the corners instead of trail braking.
