Just installed a 1.5 way LSD into my car. It feels so weird when taking corners, its like it clunks and shakes the whole car.

I've ask some people about this and they say its normal for 1.5 way LSd to do this when street driving.

Can anyone clarify this? And whats the difference betwwen 1 way and 1.5 way.

Thanks all

I am not sure what your probem is specifically with you car, sorry. But I can help with the difference of a 1.5 way and a 1 way diff

1 way = Only "locks" when Accelerating

1.5 way = "Locks" when Accelerating and 'partly' when Decelerating (it provides a balance when decelerating)

the terms 1way, 1.5 way or 2way refers to 'when' the LSD (LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL) actually works

1 way works only during acceleration (drag)
2 way works for both acceleration and deceleration (track/circuit)
1.5 way allows for adjustment in how much slip is allowed either during acceleration or deceleration (good for beginners)

is it an aftermarket lsd? clunking is normal for 1.5 and 2 ways

yes clunking is normal. Its the LSD locking up. U can try different gearbox oils to help decrease sounds, but its just part of the game... 1.5way LSD's are favoured by drifters because of there aggressive nature.

what is a helical lsd?

its a torsen LSD - torque sensing.

Also , clunking mid corner with a 1.5 on a FWD is further emphasised by using a non-PS steering system too :)

Mate i had a 1.5way cusco LSD in my CRX, it clunked like mad on slow corners when i first put it in. A mate of mine suggested that i put in an addative, i was using a fairly thin penrite diff oil with the penrite additive Limslip 7098 i think it is called (its the same additive that they are using in the new XR8 Falcon ute's). It worked wonders, I highly recomend it.

Actually 2 Way is favoured by majority of drifters... 1.5 way for a lot of circuit whores ;)

DC2R stock LSD is a 1.5 way.

You must be the only person in the world with a 1.5 way OEM DC2R LSD.

Don't be sorry... its a helical to be more precise. Feels very much like a 1 way clutch type the way it drives, miuns the low speed clunking.

Reason why you will see these in production FF cars is due to smoothness, no real maintenance due to no wearing out of clutch plates, and no real "locking" during decel makes it safer for the majority of people out there.

Which brings me to a question I have been pondering a while..... do Torsen/Helical diffs offer any torque biasing/ locking during decel?
