Hi, i am looking for a CRX and came across one and apparently it has a new engine in it.
The owner doesnt know anything about the car aswell.
So my problem is that i want to know which engine is in the CRX.
How can you tell from the D16 and B16 by just looking at it?

What shape is the car ?
(AUDM)

Older squarish CRX = D16a8
Newer smooth shape = B16a2

they are so diff, D16A r twin cams, 96kw, which are eqipped in 89 Civic EF Si (JDM), 1989 CRX si, 92 Civic EG5/EH9 Si.
B16A or B16A2 r only eqipped in EK4 civic hatch vti-r n EM1 civic coupe vtir in oz(unless oz 92 or up CRX del sol), the 1995 or be4 b16a model civic/must be JDM spec , but not oz delivery model. b16a is twin cam, 118 kw vtec....more high rev than d16a.

both r very gd 1.6 twin cam engines anyway. but B16A produces more power, more compression rate, little bit more torque, MAY BE more potential to mod than D16A. correct me if i m wrong.

on the block.. right next to your exhaust manifold
you should see liek a little probly 4cm square flat bit with nubmers and letters engraves so look there

my guess would be if the current owner doesn' know much about the car and engines he would not go to the hassle of swapping to a B16 in a 89 Aus Spec CRX - would have been a straight swap as a replacement.

However - if its a B16 it will have a VTEC sign on top of the rocker cover and on the 'block'.

wouldnt it be more simple to look for the VTEC sign on the rocker cover
3032
but also have a look in this general area
3033
it should have the engine number or type, ie b16a2 or d16a8
