pretty much. Not tuneable at all ~

but do any of them come with no rev limit ?

CUL8R
24-10-2006, 10:11 PM
i doubt ecus can have no rev limit.
coz u nbeed a fuel and ignition curve/s for all rpms, when u design an ecu to let the engine to spin to 100,000 rpm that will take alot of data!!!!

i mean will spoon ecu come with no rev limit ??

well how much did you pay for the ecu? is for starters..
u cant really tell if its a fake by looking at it because all ecu's dont look fancy
just a sticker on it

180sx
26-10-2006, 05:25 PM
it doesn't even have a sticker lol , the only sticker is : 37820-p30-g00 , then 775-116199 ASF , and a little word denshigiken, that's all about it ...

LOL

who sold it to you?

I bet it's just a re-chipped stock P30.

Open it up and take a photo of the eprom. If its socketed in place, its a fake.
If the Eprom is directly soldered in, good chance its legit.

is there a big different between a chipped one and a spoon one ? sorry it sounds a bit noob , but i am new to honda

RMN15N
26-10-2006, 05:39 PM

how much did u pay for it if u dont mind me asking?

37820-p30-g00 , then 775-116199 ASF , and a little word denshigiken, that's all about it ...

if it says "P30-G00" then it's a "G" ecu.. the "G" stands for 'Global'.. the ECU's that say "J00" are Jap-spec ECU's.

Spoon ECU's are simply OEM Honda ECU's that run a spoon chip rather than an OEM chip. there is no 'chip-saddle' soldered in as spoon solders their own chips into the mainboard themselves.

so I'd say that Spoon would use the JDM ECU's... ie "J00"..

jdm ecus are smaller, more square, not rectangular adn yes denoted with a J

EPROM - Let's start with the last three letters. ROM means Read-Only Memory. This is a permanent storage place for computer programs. Computers can read their operating program from this device. It cannot be written over (as opposed to RAM, which we are sure you have heard of). It is made with the computer program already etched in right at the factory. PROM means Programmable ROM. A PROM is a device like a ROM, except that it leaves the factory blank and can be filled with a program once, and only once. An EPROM is an Erasable PROM. It can be erased after being written, but only with an intense ultra-violet light source. That is typically why you see thick labels on them - so they won't accidentally get erased due to prolonged exposure to sunlight or flourescent lights. Why don't auto manufacturers use ROMs or PROMs instead of EPROMS? We suspect that at the beginning of a model year, many things in the ECU computer program are still in flux. After all, the smog testing for the entire model line may not have been completed yet, and the smog rules themselves might have changed since they designed the car. In order to accomodate any last minute quick fixes, the manufacturers use EPROMs so they won't get stuck with a bunch of ECUs that have the wrong program in them.

all i did was type the words the words, car ecu eprom, into google, 5 seconds and i had all that above information, sometimes its a good idea to search first coz u do get ur results so much quicker.

oh thats some bad advice there, number one, u should send em to james, the official distributer of hondata in australia,

number two,for someone who asks questions such as wats eprom i doubt he will see why he should invest 2k+ on a standalone ecu that sometimes will cause complications. dont forget a good tuner to setup a full base tune like dynodave charges in excess of 800 i believe. my tuner still cost me 400 and thats at mates rates.

2k+??? s300 goin for $800 atm,got mine for $700

$800 for base tune? James did mine for $450

$400 mates rate retune? gettin a retune this coming week for $150

complications???

standalone??? he already has an OBD1 ecu by the sounds of it.

ok.... the unit itself is 800, ecu is 200
i actually opted for a slightly more expensive option coz when u source it through james, he decides that he must do the tuning, i was unhappy about that so had to source it through a guy in canada.
ur gonna need a conversion harness in obd2-obd1 conversions 200

in my case complications = dickhead sold me a dud ecu = 200
i opted to get myself a wideband o2 sensor while i was at it = 600

dynodave and james are not comparable in their prices!!! lets start comparing apples with bananas while we're at it!

i never said a retune costs 400, MY tune cost me 400 at mates rates.

spoon ecus are a bit average, arent they just a rich a/f mix?

it's a LEAN mix if anything !! if you read the info on the spoon ECU (from Spoon) it says "fuel efficiency" was one of their main objectives.

I've had practically the same fuel ecconomy as with stock ECU.

Spoon OBD1 ECU's all have limit at 9,000RPM I think only the EK9 has 9200 rev limit.

Definate power gain or drivability gain.. not earth shattering gain but noticable

in relation to the serial numbers, my new spoon item is a JDM ECU but I think it said P30-000 instead of P30-J00 or P30-G00.. interesting..

here's pic of mine :D
