View Full Version : DC2 VTIR valve clearances?

I was just wondering if valve clearance is adjustable on a B18C?

I'm sure they are, just want to be 100% positive before I go pulling it apart.

And while I'm at it, what are the factory clearances on the valves?

Sock specs for intake are .8mm-.12mm (.003-.005 inch) and exhaust is .16mm-.20mm (.006-.008 inch)

Unless you mean piston to valve clearances then I'll have to look those up later.

I just mean the clearance between the top of the valve stem and the rocker arm so I'd say you were on the money the first time.

Ya, a flat head screw driver, a 12mm wrench, and a feeler gauge set. (Insert sarcastic remark here!!)

Just check when your gettin your feeler guage that the one you buy has the correct clearences. i bought a kinchrome one and it didn't have any of the clearances that i needed. it didn't go small enough.

Planning on doing this soon and it doesn't seem hard.

have a search because theres a few DIY threads as well as a few thread with questions and answers about the process.

To bad Hondas use a 12mm jam nut, at least all the ones I have done. But yes that can help too. Little expensive, even here in the U.S.!

I have that tool in 10mm and 12mm to suit all Hondas. Defently worth the money if you adjust valve clearances often.

you need that tool for VTIR engines (http://b16a2.kicks-ass.net/tech/tappet-tool.jpg). makes it alot easyer.

it can be done with a socket, extention bar and screw driver but it takes longer and is more fidlly.

those tools rock :)

you can't use a spanner like this on a b-series. you really need a proper tool to do it. It's a really fiddly little job too- if you want to get it perfect.
