Hey,

Jusy wanna know when these cars came out from Honda in Australia and why? What are there specs? I've seen a couple of these around and it looks like they came out when the 4th gen Civics were around. Just seems wierd that Honda would release a car like this and just kill it off very quickly - and why the bloody hell were they released?!?!?

Late '80s - but they came with a SOHC 1600 with EFI unlike the 4th gen Civic's twin-carb. Essentially they were Honda's foray into Euro styling in the '80s, but they weren't as popular or as cheap as the 3 and 4 door Civics.

You can tell most Honda's of the '80's period, they have a musical theme:

Concherto
Prelude
Ballade (1st gen CRX)

I dunno where the Legend or Integra fit into it, and the Civic and Accord had been around since the '70s so their title didn't change.

Why was the Concherto killed off? In the late '80s it was competing with the Accord in terms of refinement (although a glorified Civic, it had a much better interior etc) and the Accords of the '90s went upmarket and replaced it in the line-up.

it looks and was honda's version of a rover 200. it was crap living in the uk as both honda and rovers were the same things different badges.

check out about halfway down page

a friend in the uk had one, it had a k series engine in it, looked a bit like a d16a8.

judging by the reviews, people liked it!! best quote has to be "A Modifiers Dream"

anyways enough about mentioning rovers!! i used to work for em !!

My dad used to work for Rover as well......

Either way, Concertos weren't such a bad thing for their day.....

I thought the Rover was a 4 door 'teg? Or were there more than one "badge engineered" Rover? I do know hte concherto used to be on the Honda History site

Yeh i thought the Rovers did the Gen 1 Teggs and the two door accords of that gen - the popup lights one and the gen of Accords before that. I haven't seen any other Rovers besides those ones. :?

OMG do Rover ever design their own fricken cars?!?!?!?!? :x

My wife used to have a Concerto, wasn't a bad little city car. Had close ratio gearbox so it was fun to drive, but on the highway it could have done with another gear.

I had a Rover 416i
It actually has only 4 rover badges on the whole car, and has more Honda badges than Rover Badges...

Other Rovers that were made by Honda INCLUDE
Quintet and 416, but there are quite a few, just can;t remember their names....

90-93 JDM Concerto 1.6i 16v
5-Door Hatchy 1090kg
D16A9 122HP@6,800RPM 14.3 Kg/m @ 5,700RPM

sorry I dont have AUDM specs for this model.. the JDM version I have listed was the highest-spec Concerto.

Basically it was introduced at the END of the EF series and ran into the EG series. It is based on EF civic platform as it retains cable tranny set-up.

I was looking at Conchertos in '89 (yeah I am that old :?) when I was also looking at the GL Civic hatch. My oldest daughter was born in Jan '90 and I know she wasn't around when we looked at it. Unless it was a pre-release demonstrator.

sorry if there was misunderstanding, i only quoted 90-93 JDM Concertos's because i do not have certified info on AUDM models..

I think it was released in 88 in Japan and 89 in Australia..

'tis cool - it was the first time I'd seen one so it might have been a demonstrator :)
