Just wondering if our cars has ever had a review by these guys? Interested what they would say about it.

(might be a Lounge thread but figured more Euro drivers would know the answer)

I havent seen enough of the series. Missing the show though, till the new series. Our cars would have to slot in 3/4 of the way down the Top Gear scale, wouldn't they?

Yes a few times.

When it first came out they reviewed it, and then tracked it against two other oldschool cars.

Not as the Euro as it is just an Honda Accord in the UK.

For Top Gear there I know of two references

- Got reviewed in 2003 on the web site site but not, I think, the TV show. See www.topgear.com/drives/B5/A6/roadtests/07/01.html

- Was used as the "comparison car" when they looked at the E-type Jaguar and Aston Martin DB5 in the standing start race (which it won). Not sure of the series.

They LOVE the Euro on both programs. But the car they love is the 2 litre Type R. In fact, Tiff and Vicki from 5th Gear took a Euro to a class win in a Group N style endurance race just recently...was reading about it on a Mugen site.

yes it was tested in series 1 episode 4 and it was compared to the Ford Mondeo, Toyota Avensis, Mercedes C-Class, BMW 318i, Jaguar X-Type and Renault Laguna. i've got all the episodes on my server :D

However they tested the 2.0L version of the accord but they still ranked it no.1 before they got the stig to track each car.

The track times were

Ford 1.41
BMW 1.43
Mercedes 1.43
Honda 1.44
Renault 1.45
Toyota 1.45
Jaguar 1.46

Also had an Arctic Blue Euro in the studio on Series 6, Episode 4 (19/6/05) after they reviewed the BMW E90 320d.

The Accord was mentioned as a rival to the BMW and Jeremy Clarkson says:
"James May likes that one"
then Richard+Jeremy say "it is a very good car"

Then they mention the Audi A4 and Jeremy says: "it rides too hard"

Clarkson commenting about the BMW:
"It looks like a sofa with 4 castors on the bottom of it"
"If you buy one of these, what you're saying is "I've got no imagination!""

Series 1 was like in the late 90's though. The Accord CL9/7 wasn't out then.

How bout the time, CL9 was in Fifth Gear in the 24Hour Race [Could be 12hour though] and beat the rival RX-8 in its class.

Happy Halloween YO.

Yes, I remember the episode with the Aston and E Type. My thoughts were how bad and slow those cars performance and handling are now. I guess they were a happening thing back in the sixties?

It's the same engine as the one in the Integra luxury and the Civic Sport. It's not as fast as the 2.4L but it's an option to save fuel. Even better is the 2.2 CTD-i. I've read user reviews from the UK where the guy test drove both and found the 2.4L lacking in the usual 1000-4000rpm rev range. The 2.2 diesel was better in every way at 1000-4000rpm except for the engine sound.

hms I thought the 2L was the same as the Japanese Euro-R crazy high revving 2L engine, guess its just an economical version instead..

But either way, the 2L would need to be revved high to get decent power, whereas the 2.4L is more suitable for everyday driving especially in traffic, thanks to the torque advantage.

I reckon they could all do with an extra cylinder or two, 2.4 bad enough let alone 2.0 ltr how uncool and embarassment would the clacketty clack diesel be in the sporty Euro guise?

you can always buy a Type-S? It too has the 2L but then again, UK gets real japanese performance and we get, hmmmm.

2.4L is a good all round engine giving good fuel economy and round town driveability.

The EuroR has a different k20A. It gets the one from the JDM DC5R but with peak torque at 6000rpm.

So overall, Japan gets 2 versions of the 2.0L and the 2.4L. UK gets the lower powered 2.0L, the 2.4L and the 2.2L diesel.

The diesel is not the clacketty type. There's a reason why the i-CTDi engine won the 2005 International Engine of the Year award in the 2.0-2.5L category. Imagine, a diesel beating all the petrol engines in the most popular category that includes the MPS's 2.3L direct injection turbo, Volvo/Ford's 2.5L inline 5 turbo and even BMW's 2.5L inline 6 in the E90 3-series.

If you have seen the size of a DOHC VTEC head for a V6, it won't fit into the Euro's engine bay. The SOHC V6 might fit though.

The Type-S comes with the same 140kW 2.4L engine that we get. UK gets the same 140kW that we have, plus the low power 2.0L.

Japan's 2.4L makes 147kW, USA used to have 147kW, but are at 160kW for their 2006 engine. I wonder if it is possible for an engine swap to be done with a 2006 USDM engine (not sure if their ECU can run our instrument cluster).

Basic engine has to be the same, must be diff.ecu, cam actuator, intake etc.Fuel type also has something to do with it!!!

2006 TSX has larger intake arm, larger throttle body, larger intake manifold, larger intake valves, high flow cat, larger exhaust diameter, different high lift cam profile and ECU.
